I hung up the phone, feeling the weight of urgency pressing down on my shoulders. I adjusted my tie with a sharp tug, my fingers combing through my thick, unruly waves as I steeled myself for the task ahead. Time was slipping away, and desperation gnawed at the edges of my resolve.
