Chapter 2

Beatrix

I take a seat next to the lake reminiscing on how I found my spot.

-Flashback-

Run. Run faster.

That's all I can think don't stop. Pushing my legs to their limit as the branches break the skin on the bottom of my feet. I wont go back I can't I'll die if I do. That's all I can think.

I kept running my breath coming out in short pants evident to the fatigue. Against my better judgment I look back for a split second and end up tripping. as I fall I expect the harsh ground of the forest but I land on soft grass. Groaning from the impact I took I roll on my back. When I open my eyes all I see is a clear sky with more stars than I've ever seen before. When I finally gain the strength to look around and see I'm in a clearing. It's beautiful a small lake that looks to perfect to be real. I notice a waterfall as I walk towards it I see a cave hidden by the water.

As I look around it looks like a picture made to be perfect, I see a small patch of yellow flowers with lightning bugs flowing around. Adding light to the area is the clearest I've ever seen the moon. Bathed in moonlight I feel as if it was meant for me to find this place.

I think back to how my mother let one of her guest to come in my room and how she started to hit me when I denied him. instantly rage takes place in me soul I feel as if I'm burning from how angry I feel. Trying to suppress my rage I shut my eyes closed and picture a happy memory. But nothing comes and I end up getting angrier. When I open my eyes I see that my once Onyx colored hair is now silver and is flowing around me as if I'm in a wind tunnel.

-End of Flashback-

That's right the other things that I gained that night is that I am a witch. I don't know how but I just put it to my mother had a one night stand with a warlock. It never really bothered me not knowing my dad.

Cause I know no matter what I'm bound to him through my magic.

Getting up from my spot next to lake I make my way to the cave. When I enter the candles automatically light. Cool right, it was one of the first spells I learned. And no I didn't just go to the pack library and grab a book on magic mostly because I'm not allowed to.

I've made trips to book stores in town. And no I don't mean like Barnes and noble. There is an actual magic shop in town, not pulling a rabbit out of a hat I mean spells and charm store.

When I made my first trip the Older woman that runs the shop walked up with a old book with a trigram on it. I felt a pull towards it but I didn't know what it meant so I said " Thank you, but I'm just looking."

"Oh, Beatrix I've been waiting for you"

To say it was the weirdest encounter that I've had is a understatement. I now know her name is Brenda and she's a witch from a coven in Texas. Weird right. She apparently moved here knowing that I would come see her. If you cant tell already she's clairvoyant.

Shaking my head out of thoughts of the past I focus on the spell in front of me. Tonight is the night I master this spell. It has taken at least a hundred failed tries before but I have a feeling about tonight. Exiting the cave and walking into the middle of the clearing, I clear my mind of all thoughts. My hair slowly changes to the silver color that shows my witch at the surface.

I begin chanting the spell, I feel an electric current flow through me. When I open

my eyes I see as the lightning strikes the ground just feet in front of me. I squeal in happiness.

"YES, FINALLY I DID IT" I scream out into the quiet night.

See nature that has to be created it the hardest to master or even control. I'm perfectly fine with wind, fire, earth, and water they were easier because they are already there but lightning. That was hard I've been trying to master for the last month. It was full of a lot of close calls I almost got burnt to a crisp one time. All the other spells come to me easy I mastered all those in about a week. So excited from the spell I finally casted without a problem I didn't notice the presence leering in the tree line watching.

Finally satisfied with my casting of the spell I start to head back home. Now that I've finally got that spell down all my mind can think about is that my birthday is tomorrow I'll be 17. Which means I can find my mate and shift for the first time.

With a bright smile one my face I make my trek through the woods when I'm hit with immense pain. I scream out wanting the pain to stop. Looking down I see my limbs contort into odd shapes.

The it hits me I'm shifting. I'm brought out of my thoughts when I hear another painful snap. Waiting for the pain to subside I feel fire break out on my skin as I see black fur sprout from every pore. I wait for the pain to stop when it finally does I try to stand and see that I'm standing on all fours. Taking a shaky step forward I fall.

Take it easy.

I Look around to see where that voice came from. I tried calling out but only a bark came out.

Who said that? I thought to myself.

I did, I'm your wolf Ashton. She said in a matter of fact tone.

I get my one wolf that's so cool. I state happily

Lets go have a look at ourselves I cant wait at longer. So cut the chit chat and lets go chop-chop. She said in a chipper demanding voice.

Yes ma'am I say rolling my eyes.

Shakily I make my way back to the clearing. When I near the water I look down and see my wolf, we have black fur that almost looks blue with my signature violet eyes. But the most noticeable it the crescent moon in the middle of my forehead.

We're beautiful I state

I already knew that, she says rolling her eyes.

But you see that mark in the middle of our forehead it means that we we're chosen by the moon goddess. She states

But what for? I asked confused

I don't know yet, well I don't know about you but I'm tired lets go home.

Okay, lets go. Making my way back home I realize I don't know how to shift back. when the house comes in to view I ask How do I change back?

Just think about what your body looks like.

Doing as she says I feel my body shift back just less painful than last time. Making my way in the house in nothing but my birthday suit. I snicker at that thought. I pass the living room where I see my mom passed out with another "guest". Rolling my eyes as I head up stairs I quickly put on clothes and climb in bed.

As sleep starts to over take me I think back to my wolf.

As I drift off to sleep I dream about what my mate will be like.
