Beatrix
I woke up to sunlight streaming into my room, hitting me directly in the face turning away from the window I see that it's 11AM. Why did they let me sleep in I thought I was suppose to start training today?
Pulled from my train of thought by someone knocking. I get up from my bed and head towards the door. Opening the door I come face to face with James carrying a tray of food.
The smell of bacon, syrup and French toast bombards my senses. I snatch the tray from his hands before he can even has enough time to react. Swiftly I turn around and head towards my bed.
"Well good morning to you to Beatrix. And your welcome for the food." He says teasingly.
"Good morning" "Thank you" I say between bites.
"To what do I owe this pleasure?" I ask looking up from my already half finished breakfast.
"Well Beatrix your going to start your training today. And I wanted to make sure you had something to eat you have been out for the last 2 days."
Spiting my orange juice out I yell "What! What do you mean I've been out for 2 days?"
"Well did cast spells that's haven't been seen in over 500 years. And you had your first vision. That takes a lot out of a witch. Honestly I'm surprised you woke up so soon I thought you would be out for another week at least." He says in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Okay so what does that mean?" "It means you have more power than I even realized before." He says sitting on the bed next to me.
"Beatrix your an amazing gift given to our people but that also means that people are going to come after that power. You need to be prepared and I will give my life for you. You're my daughter and don't get me wrong I still don't know you very well but I'm willing to give you my best effort to prove I'm worthy of being in your life." He says stroking my cheek.
"Yes." "I'm sorry what?" He asks confused. "I said yes I'll give you a chance." I say with my eyes brimming with unshed tears.
He pulls me into a hug and says " Thank you Beatrix. I promise you wont regret this."
Pulling away from the hug James stands and extends his hand to me "Come on. We have training to get to."
I flop back on to the bed and sigh "Do I have to? I mean I was out for 2 days."
"Yes, Beatrix now get up I'll give you 15 minutes to meet me downstairs." He says while pulling me up.
"Fine I'll get dressed but I wont be happy about it." I say trudging towards my closet.
Letting out a deep chuckle " I'll see you down stairs in 15 young lady and don't be late." he says exiting the room.
"Yes sir" I yell back to him as I enter my closet.
I walk out in a baby blue tank top, grey yoga pants and baby blue running shoes. When I have my air pulled up into a high ponytail I then braid it. Running down the stairs I see everyone waiting for me in the foyer.
Stepping off the final step Dakota steps forward and says "How are you feeling Bea?"
"Fine just a little stiff from sleeping for 2 days." I say honestly.
"Alright then we'll start with a run, then some stretching then we'll start on combat training. When we're all done with that you will train with James to prefect your magic. Got it." Xavier says stepping besides Dakota.
"Got it, where are we running?" I ask
"Just wait you'll see." Dakota says with a mischievous smile. Slightly afraid I take a step back ready to turn the other way and run. But before I have a chance Marcus is behind me pushing me forward.
"Now don't try and run away Beatrix you'll just make it worse for yourself." Marcus says.
30 minutes later.
"Can we stop I'm going to die." I yell at Dakota struggling to take in a deep breath.
"Nope keep going we're almost half way done with the run." Xavier says from behind me.
"You have got to be kidding me! The territory is huge how do you expect me to be able to run around the whole thing?" I ask making Dakota laugh.
"We do this run everyday Beatrix and don't even break a sweat." Dakota says.
Come on Bea we can do this. Lets show them that we're not weak.
Okay, but I think I might die before we finish.
I'll give you some of my strength so we can finish alright.
With that Ash cuts our connection and lets some of her strength flow into me. I begin moving just a little faster than I was before.
"Finally! I thought you would never get it Beatrix." Xavier yells
"What do you mean I would never get it?" "To do this run you must use your wolf and your own strength to complete it. Its basically to help build your bond with your wolf." Dakota says smugly.
"Are you kidding me I could have done that from the beginning and been done with this stupid run." I yell at them.
"Yup its that easy." Xavier says.
"I hate you both. You know that right." "No, Beatrix you love us now lets get going." They say in unison.
"Don't do that its creepy when you do that." I say picking up the pace.
Another 20 minutes and we've finally finished the run. About to drop to the ground and rest Derrick grabs me by the arm and shakes his head.
"I wouldn't do that if I we're you Bea you'll just be more fatigued when you stand up. Now lets start stretching." He says calmly.
"Ugh. I just want to sit down I'm so tired." I complain to no one in particular.
"Come on the quicker we start the quicker we finish." Derrick says.
Grudgingly I begin to stretch as Derrick told me to do. About 15 minutes later Marcus walks out and says "I'll be handling your combat training. You already have decent fighting skills. James and me believe that you we're able to use your clairvoyant powers while fighting. I think that's a good skill but we are going to teach you some basic moves so when you cant use your powers you can still defend yourself."
"Okay that seems easy enough." I say as James approaches me.
He lifts his hand above my head and I feel as if something is being drained from me. When he's done I feel like apart of me is missing.
"What did you just do?" I ask "I locked your witch side for sometime." he says calmly.
"What do you mean you locked my witch side?"
"Well we want you to train without your powers so you know that you don't need them. Don't worry you'll get them back later when your done with combat training." He says walking away.
Before I have a chance to ask another question Marcus kicks me in the middle of my spine and sends me flying towards the ground.
"Never turn your back to your opponent." Marcus says
"Dually noted." I say standing up and turning towards him. He throws a punch for my left side I dodge it but get hit with a kick to the right side of my head.
I drop to the ground like a ton of bricks. Marcus stands over me with a disapproving look.
"Pay attention Beatrix. You must always expect the unexpected." He says turning away from me.
Anger flood my system from the kick I just received. Positioning myself I crouch down ready to pounce on to Marcus. When I do I feel my legs push off. Marcus turns around just in time to see me but he didn't expect what I did next.
As he turned I forced my body towards the ground landing on my hands and pushing off again. I grab him around the neck with my legs forcing him to lose balance. Quickly positioning myself over him I begin to let a barrage of punches fly towards anywhere that I could get to.
When I see him not fighting back I jump off of him and take a step back lowering myself into attack stance that I remember from my vision. When Marcus finally stands up he looks at me with no emotion.
Then suddenly he burst out laughing and says "Good job Beatrix. I'm proud of you. Now lets do it again."
A feeling of pride washes over me and I smile back we continue fight for another hour before James comes to break us up.
"Alright that enough it time for her magic lessons." He says gesturing for me to follow him.
Waving good bye to Marcus I run behind James to catch up. We walk into the castle library.
"We are here to learn Beatrix. That is the first thing you must do. You must learn our history or you may never reach your full potential. You must know how a spell is created to be able to properly cast it." He says sensing my confusion.
"But I already know how to cast a spell. There's no point in me learning this stuff." I argue
"But there is Beatrix. Do you know why elemental magic is so hard? Do you know why the first spells were created? Can you tell me what spell you would use to lock away a witches powers permanently?" He asks.
"Well no but I can learn how to lock powers with my grimoire. And why does it matter why the first spells we're created?" I say
"Because Beatrix as a witch you must know what our people have been through so we can learn from the past and move forward. And the first spells we're created because werewolves and vampires were pillaging whole cities of humans forcing them to the point of almost extinction. They gave the humans a fighting chance against their attackers."
Contemplating what James just said I realize that what he's say is important and I should learn about my witch heritage.
"Okay maybe that's important but why must I learn in here can I at least read all this stuff somewhere else?" I ask.
"Fine I can agree with that." He says picking up a sack of books and heading towards the garden.
When we arrive he places the books on the ground and says "You are to read all these books. Now understand you wont finish them all today but I would like you to read as much as you can. And I still have your magic you cant use it to take in the information faster."
"Fine I'll read the books without magic." I say sitting on the ground underneath a large oak tree.
This is how I trained and learned how to control my magic over the next year. Day in and day out I read book after book. James didn't return my magic to me till I read every book in the library about witch history which took me two months to complete. When he retuned my magic it was like apart of my soul came back to me I was so happy.
I remember running out into the garden and making the trees and flowers dance. During my little celebration, all the little girls and their mothers surrounded me and watched as I danced. Noticing the girls I made vines wrap around their legs and up to their heads. The mothers we're scared of course. When the vines were done with the climb up the girls they braided themselves in to a crown on their heads and bloomed beautiful flowers. The girls were so happy they all squealed with joy, then I made the flowers around me explode forcing their petals into the air. They came raining down upon the girls. I know I'll always remember that moment because all I saw was unbridled joy.
My combat skills increased immensely to the point I'm now a head trainer in the Rose Legion. I travel around to other packs and help train their warriors.
