The sun was beginning its retreat down into the hills west of Jerusalem, casting its light upon the holy and revered Mount of Olives where Peter the Hermit was preparing to give his sermon. The ancient olive trees dotted the gently sloping hillside, which created a natural amphitheater where Jesus of Nazareth had once preached to the masses. Below the Mount of Olives lay the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed with his disciples and was arrested the night before his crucifixion.
After partaking in the meal to break the fast, Rodrigo and Geoffrey, along with the rest of the Crusaders, began to exit the camp and head toward the Mount of Olives, passing the garden along the way.
