“Rodrigo! Rodrigo!” a voice called to him from above. “Come here, lad. It is time for your lesson.” The young boy ran into the castle from the courtyard and went up the stairs and down the hallway into his uncle’s study. Rays of sunlight shone down from the windows above as his uncle waited for him at a table in the middle of the large room. The table was surrounded by shelves full of books and scrolls that chronicled the campaigns and strategies of the greatest generals in the battles of antiquity. Climbing onto a stool, the boy looked up at his uncle with a smile, eager for the day’s lesson. “What were you doing out there in the courtyard?” his uncle asked him as he looked down at the young Rodrigo. “Practicing with my wooden sword,” Rodrigo answered with a smile. “Ahh . . . good boy
