"Mine."
The single syllable ripped through the silent clearing like a thunderclap.
The word didn't just vibrate in the air; it echoed deep within my marrow, commanding every instinct I possessed to bow to him. Around us, the festival had completely frozen. Omegas, warriors, and even the elders were on their knees, their heads bowed, unable to withstand the crushing weight of Kael's Alpha aura.
My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. My mind was spinning, unable to process the sheer impossibility of the situation. Alpha Kael is my mate. The ruthless, terrifying leader of the Blood Moon Pack. The male who had spent years searching for his Luna, rejecting every high-ranking female who tried to claim his bed.
And he was Zane’s older brother.
Panic seized me as I realized the absolute chaos this would cause. Zane had just rejected me yesterday. Now, I was bonded to his brother, his Alpha, the one male in the entire world he feared and respected above all others.
"A-Alpha," I stammered, my voice trembling so badly it was barely a whisper. I tried to take a step back, to put some distance between the intoxicating heat of his body and mine, but his grip on my waist tightened instantly.
"Do not pull away from me," Kael growled, his voice a dark, rough rumble that sent a shiver straight down my spine. His golden eyes—the eyes of his inner beast—locked onto mine, burning with a possessive intensity that made my knees weak.
Before I could form another coherent thought, Kael released my chin and swept me off my feet.
A startled gasp escaped my lips as he lifted me effortlessly into his arms, carrying me bridal style against his broad chest. The entire pack collectively gasped. Whispers erupted through the crowd, a frantic wave of shock and disbelief.
"Is that... Aria?"
"Did the Alpha just claim her?"
"But Zane rejected her..."
Kael didn't care. He completely ignored the murmurs, his jaw set in a hard, unforgiving line as he turned and carried me away from the bonfire, straight toward the imposing silhouette of the packhouse.
"Put me down," I whispered frantically, my cheeks burning with embarrassment as hundreds of eyes watched us leave. "Alpha, please. Everyone is staring."
Kael looked down at me, his golden eyes narrowing slightly. "Let them stare," he rumbled. "They are looking at their future Luna. Let them memorize your face, so they know exactly who they belong to."
The words sent a thrill of terrified excitement through me, but my human insecurities immediately fought back. "I can't be your Luna," I protested weakly. "I'm unranked. I have no special bloodline. Zane rejected me because—"
A terrifying, bone-chilling growl tore from Kael's throat at the mention of his brother's name. The sound was so violent, so inherently feral, that my inner wolf instantly whimpered and submitted, forcing my mouth to snap shut.
"Do not speak his name," Kael ordered, his voice dropping an octave, becoming dangerously quiet. "You are not his. You never were. The Goddess simply allowed you to cross his path so you could be delivered to me. You are mine, Aria. Only mine."
He tightened his grip on me, pulling me closer to the heat of his chest. His scent—that intoxicating blend of dark pine, rain, and raw power—wrapped around me like a heavy, protective blanket. Despite my fear, despite the absolute insanity of the situation, I felt safe. Safer than I had ever felt in my entire life.
We reached the packhouse, pushing through the heavy oak double doors. The massive entry hall was empty, as everyone was at the festival. Kael didn't head for the public living areas. Instead, he carried me straight toward the grand staircase, heading for the heavily guarded third floor—his private quarters.
Two elite Delta guards stood at the top of the stairs. As soon as they saw Kael approaching with me in his arms, their eyes widened in shock, but they immediately bowed their heads and stepped aside, opening the heavy double doors to his suite.
Kael carried me inside, and the doors clicked shut behind us. The heavy lock engaged with a loud, final thud.
I was alone with him. In his territory. In his private sanctuary.
His suite was exactly what I expected of the Supreme Alpha. It was vast, dominated by dark wood, leather, and shades of slate and charcoal. A massive king-sized bed sat in the center of the room, draped in heavy furs, and a fire crackled quietly in the stone hearth, casting dancing shadows against the walls.
He didn't put me down immediately. Instead, he carried me to the center of the room and slowly, deliberately let my feet slide to the floor. His hands remained firmly on my hips, anchoring me to him.
The silence in the room was deafening, broken only by our breathing. I kept my head down, my eyes fixed on the silver buttons of his shirt, too terrified to meet his intense gaze.
"Look at me, Aria," he commanded softly.
I swallowed hard and slowly tilted my head up. His human irises had returned—a striking, piercing shade of storm-cloud gray—but the raw, primal hunger within them hadn't diminished in the slightest.
He reached out, his large hand gently brushing a stray lock of hair behind my ear. His touch was surprisingly tender, completely at odds with his terrifying reputation.
"You are shaking," he noted, his thumb lightly stroking my cheek. "Are you afraid of me?"
"I..." I hesitated, my voice barely a whisper. "I don't know."
"Good," he murmured, stepping closer. The heat radiating from his body was intoxicating, drawing my inner wolf closer to the surface. "You should fear what I am capable of doing to my enemies. But you will never fear what I will do to you. I will burn this entire pack to the ground before I let anyone hurt you again."
The raw, possessive intensity in his voice made my breath catch. He leaned in, burying his face in the crook of my neck. I gasped as his hot breath fanned over my sensitive skin, right over the spot where his mark would eventually go.
He inhaled deeply, a low, rumbling groan vibrating in his chest as he took in my scent. "Jasmine and sweet honey," he whispered against my skin. "I have waited years for you, little wolf. I watched that foolish boy drag you around, trying to suppress the instinct to tear his throat out just for looking at you. Now, I don't have to hold back."
He pressed a soft, lingering kiss to my neck, right over my pulse point. The mate bond surged between us, sending a violent jolt of electricity straight to my core. I gasped, my hands instinctively grabbing his broad shoulders to steady myself as my knees threatened to buckle.
"You are mine now," Kael whispered, his lips trailing up to my jaw. "And tomorrow, the entire pack will know exactly who their Luna is."
