A New Kind of Magic-4

1676 Words

A mist formed in the air, and someone gasped. Paige’s skin tingled and the chamber suddenly went cold. The mist swirled for a moment before taking form. The wavering outline of a pale woman hovered before them. She was tall and slender, with long hair and pointed ears. Without coloring, it was impossible to say whether she was an elf or a drakhal. Her eyes seemed unnaturally large, and were utterly devoid of humanity. As Paige took in the spirit’s appearance, she stifled a gasp of her own. Around her neck was a glowing, dwarven-made opal necklace, identical to Vesta’s. Something clicked into place in Paige’s mind as she remembered the conversation she had shared with the spirit a few days ago. So that’s how Vesta bound her! She used the spirit’s name to compel her to put on the necklace.
