CHAPTER TWELVE

1290 Words
“The Alpha King spent your wedding night with you. He usually doesn’t let anybody into his personal space, but he let you. It’s a big deal among the others.” “Oh,” I nodded. I felt my cheeks burn as I remembered last night with Silas. “Do you need me to help you shower? Or do you want to do it yourself, ma’am?” “I’ll do it myself,” I said and walked into the bathroom. I emerged a few minutes later, and Selene helped me put on a black dress. It was a corset. My face twisted as Selene tied the laces behind the dress. I exhaled sharply and watched my reflection in the mirror. My blonde hair was styled majestically. I smiled at my reflection. I really did look like a Luna. My bosoms were pushed up by the dress. It looked too seductive. “Aren’t my breasts too… exposed?” She shook her head. “It’s a corset, ma’am. It should be that way,” she explained. I turned to face her. “I’m hungry. What’s for breakfast?” “Whatever you want. Let’s go to the dining hall,” she said and began to lead me out. We both strolled down the hall together. The maids walked past us; their eyes moved to me, and they bowed. The dining hall was filled with food. I excitedly walked over to sit. Selene stood behind me as I ate. I looked up at the wall clock—it was 9:00. “Selene?” “Yes, Luna?” She leaned closer. “Silas—what kind of meeting does he have?” “I’m not sure, Lyra. The King’s business is private at all times. Nobody knows.” I nodded and continued to eat. After a few minutes, I stood and stretched. What would a person do around here to pass the time before Silas got back? As I walked toward the door, I saw a figure walk past. Silas? As my brow rose, the figure walked back and gazed into the room. “Silas,” I smiled. He walked into the room, a smile tugging at his lips, his footsteps slow. “You look amazing,” he complimented. He held out his hand, and I placed my hand against it. “I hoped you’d still be asleep when I got back. I’m so sorry I left,” his voice was hoarse. “I was told you had a meeting. With whom?” He hissed through his teeth, and his eyes scanned the room with hesitation. “Everybody, please leave us,” he commanded, his tone laced with authority. They all bowed and immediately began to walk out. As soon as the place was empty, he gripped my waist tightly and pulled me against him. “I’ll tell you everything you need to know about me when it’s the right time,” he said. “The claw marks? Almost dying when you jumped down the fence? I have to wonder, Silas,” I said. He sucked in another breath. “Fine. Come with me.” He held my hand and led me out of the dining room. The maids all looked at us like they had seen a ghost. Why is that? “Where are you taking me?” I asked. “You’ll see when we get there,” he responded. Selene walked quietly behind us, her head bowed. Soon we reached a wooden door. He opened the door, and the smell of new wood hit my nose. “Don’t come in with us,” he said to Selene. “Yes, Alpha King,” she said. I watched with curiosity as we stepped into the room. It was lined with bookshelves, and books were stacked on them. I heard the door shut behind me. I turned to face him. He looked at me with warmth in his eyes. “I’m about to show you something… private. Only two people in my life know about it, and when I show you, you cannot talk to anybody about it. It’s a secret.” The air grew tense. “Yeah, sure.” He walked to me and placed both hands on my face. “I really want you to know this, but you cannot tell anybody.” I grabbed his hand. “Yes, I promise.” He led me to a bookshelf. “You want to show me books?” I asked, puzzled. He reached for one of the books and tugged at it. Immediately, the bookshelf slid open like an elevator door. A whole new room appeared. My mouth opened in awe as I stepped in. It had couches. A desk sat in the middle with multiple files stacked on top. A large piece of paper lay in the middle with scribbles on it. The walls had notes pinned against them. It looked like a crime scene. “What’s all this?” I asked. He came to stand in front of me. “I’m the late Alpha King’s second son. The crown should have gone to my brother, but it came to me because that is what Dad wanted.” He hesitated before he continued. “After I got crowned, I realized my father was killed and didn’t die of natural causes as the physician had said.” My brows narrowed. “Oh. How did he die?” “My brother killed him.” His response made my mouth fall open. “Nicholas has always wanted to be king. When he found out our father might choose me to rule, he killed him. Unfortunately for him, Father already made a will with my name in it.” “Did you arrest him?” He shook his head. “I don’t have enough proof yet. That’s why I have this room. I’ll do whatever it takes to get him arrested. The time you found me, he had sent some men to attack me. They tried to kill me. I thought I was dead, but you saved me.” I watched him walk to the desk in the room. “Last time I fell off the fence, I had gone to his home, broken in to find proof, but I got injured.” He turned to face me. “Mother doesn’t know. She asked me to drop it long ago.” I stepped closer. “Who are the two people who know?” I asked. “You, Salvatore, and Aria,” he said. “Aria—she’s your best friend?” “Childhood friend. We have always known each other,” he explained and slowly walked to me. “You must really trust her to tell her about this,” I said. “Aria doesn’t matter right now,” he said. “It’s you. You don’t have to be involved in this whole mess, but I want you to know my secrets—what makes me.” I nodded. “Sure. I won’t tell anyone.” He drew his hips to mine and kissed me gently. He slowly walked to the desk, his hand sliding under my thighs. He lifted me up and placed me on the table. “I’m going to make you happy here. I promise.” He gazed into my eyes. As I parted my lips to speak, the door suddenly pulled open. I looked behind Silas and saw Salvatore, his guard. He immediately turned around as he saw us. “I’m sorry, Alpha. I didn’t know you were…” He cleared his throat. “I saw the Luna's maid outside and thought something was wrong.” “Wait outside, Salvatore,” Silas commanded. As Salvatore walked off, Silas looked back at me, his eyes narrowing.
