It's a big disappointment.
I thought he had woken up, but I guess his muscles had moved on their own and forced his hand to grab mine.
It's been forty-five hours since he fell through the fence, and he still hasn't woken up.
“The Luna is hungry. Make her dinner,” Selene said to a maid. The maid bowed her head and walked away.
I looked around the dining hall. It was as large as ten bedrooms combined. The dining table was over one hundred and ninety inches long. There were plates and glasses lined up in order.
Flowers also lay on the table to add décor.
I still couldn't believe it. I was a Luna queen with maids waiting on me.
Married to the man I… well… liked. Life was perfect, but it all felt too good to be true. I couldn't be that lucky.
Footsteps marching into the hall forced me to look up. It was the maids. They placed different foods in front of me, bowed, and walked away.
I looked up at Selene, who was standing behind me. “Is this a meal for ten people?”
She laughed. “Eat as much as you want, and the rest goes back to the kitchen.”
I tapped the chair beside me. “Sit beside me.”
She quickly shook her head. “It's against tradition. Even if you ask me to, I'm afraid I cannot,” she said politely.
I sighed and began to eat. The food tasted like it was made in a five-star restaurant. Then again, it made sense. The palace would have the best chefs.
“Does Aria live here?” I asked.
“No, but she is here often. She also has a bedroom in case she wants to stay over. The late king's wife loves her,” she explained.
“Silas' mom?”
“Yes,” she nodded.
After I finished eating, I stood up from the chair, and the maids immediately swooped in to take the plates.
As we walked to the room, I began to speak. “You know… I think something could happen between you and the king's guard.”
Her cheeks turned red instantly. “Stop,” she blushed.
I giggled and wrapped my arms around her. She quickly pulled away. I looked at her with my brows knitted together. “What?”
“We cannot hold each other's hands like that in public.”
“Why not?”
“You are the Luna. You should hold yourself high and not stoop down to the level of maids.”
I tilted my head to the side. “Awwn, that's too bad.” I looked away and began to walk toward the bedroom.
Maids bowed as they walked past us.
I had a feeling I could get used to it. I could get used to it all, as long as I wasn't being hit by Nerissa.
I walked into my bedroom and immediately began to walk toward Silas. He was still unconscious.
Selene shut the door behind us and walked to me. “Can I ask a question?”
I nodded and turned to face her.
“How did you meet the alpha king before you married?”
I looked at the curious look in her eyes. “It's a long story. I can't talk to you about it.”
I turned and walked to sit on a chair. “You should go to bed.”
“I have to wait until you fall asleep,” she said.
“Do you have to do this every day?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. “That would be tiring.”
“Well… not exactly. When the alpha king wakes up, I can't stay here late anymore. I have to wait outside until 12:00. You can ring for me with a bell whenever you have something to say to me.”
“Why can't you stay all the time?” I asked.
“Lyra,” she said with a scoff, “don't you realize that when the king wakes up, it's going to be your honeymoon? You will sleep together. I can't be there.”
My stomach skipped a beat at the thought of Silas sleeping with me. “Oh, yeah.”
She leaned closer with excitement. “Are you excited?”
I pressed my lips together. “I guess,” I said, trying to hide my excitement.
As I watched him sleep, his chest heaving, my eyes strolled down his bare body. His six-pack made me bite my lower lip. He was all I could think about, the first man who ever touched me.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Selene instantly stood up and walked to the door. I stood up as well and followed her. I adjusted my dress, and Selene opened the door. Aria stood before us.
She was dressed in a sweater and a pair of black suit pants. Her hair was up in a high bun, and her siren eyes narrowed as she saw me.
“How pathetic,” she spat.
Selene bowed her head, her fingers clutched tightly before her. “Good evening, ma'am.”
“Do you want something?”
“Have you seen Silas?” she asked. “I know he wouldn't be here, but I haven't heard from him in days, and his guard isn't saying anything.”
I gripped the sides of my dress. “Well…”
“...Why did I even come here?” she cut in before I could respond. “I don't know where he is, so why would you know?”
Silence lingered for a few seconds.
“Well, I have to go.” I tried to close the door, but she quickly put her foot between the door and its hinges.
She pushed the door open, but I quickly stood in the doorway to block her. I didn't want her to see Silas.
“I wasn't done talking. Shouldn't our Luna be asleep by now? You haven't started running yet, and you have become incompetent already. Silas chose wrong.” She lifted her fingers as she realized. “He didn't choose you, even. You were shoved into his life like a rag...”
“My wife is not incompetent, Aria!” Silas' voice tore through the room.
I gasped and spun around in shock. He stood beside the bed, his body tilted to the side as his green eyes gazed fiercely at Aria.
“Silas...” Her eyes grew wide. “I thought you were...”
“You do not come into my home and disrespect my wife,” he growled as he walked toward us.
“Silas...” Aria spoke with shock. “You are here?”
His eyes finally met mine. My heart melted instantly.
“We have been together since the day of our wedding. It's still our honeymoon, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't come here to bother us again.”
Aria didn't move. Her eyes were fixed on him.
“You are staying here? You don't enjoy being with others.”
His eyes moved to hers.
“Lyra is not others. She is my wife, your queen, our people's Luna,” his tone was harsh. “Get out.”
She took a slow step back. She gazed at him for a few seconds and turned away.
I immediately turned to face Silas, a smile on my face.
“You are awake!”
I jumped on him for a hug. His lips caught mine without a thought. His strong arms wrapped around my waist as he pulled me against himself.
“I'll give you some privacy,” Selene said and walked out. The sound of the door shutting behind her echoed.
“It's you...” I whispered, my lips against his.
“It's you,” he said back to me. “How...” he panted as he kissed me harder.
