CHAPTER TEN _BENEATH THE MASK

809 Words
P.O.V(SCARLETT) The ballroom had emptied, leaving only flickering candlelight and the lingering hum of whispered secrets. Guests had gone, but the afterglow of the masquerade remained—a heady mix of perfume, polished wood, and the faint metallic tang of danger. The snowstorm outside had intensified, drumming against the windows like impatient fingers, urging me to hurry, yet trapping me inside the manor. Gabriel appeared from the shadows as if he had been conjured by the storm itself. The mask that once concealed him now rested in his hand, revealing a face that haunted every one of my waking thoughts. His gray eyes glinted like steel, and his presence filled the room entirely. “You stayed behind,” he observed, voice low and predatory. “I… wanted a moment,” I whispered, my chest tight. The truth was simpler: I had been watching him. Watching him move through the masquerade, commanding attention and respect with a subtle, dangerous grace. I had been captivated, yet terrified. He took a step closer, closing the distance between us until I could feel the warmth radiating from his body. “Do you see what this night represents?” he murmured, his lips brushing my temple. “Power. Control. Secrets. And desire. Every element intertwines, and you… you are at the center of it.” My pulse quickened. Every nerve in my body thrummed with a mixture of fear and longing. “I…” I started, unsure how to put the growing storm inside me into words. He tilted my chin gently, forcing me to meet his gaze. “Shh,” he whispered. “No words. Only awareness. Only feeling. Tonight, you must learn to embrace the storm.” The storm outside mirrored the one building between us. He drew me close, our bodies almost touching, and my breath caught at the intensity of his presence. Every inch of him radiated authority and desire, and yet there was a vulnerability he allowed only me to witness—a flicker behind his eyes that made my chest ache. “You’re playing with fire,” I whispered, my lips barely brushing his chest. “And yet,” he murmured, hand tracing the line of my jaw, “you’ve already felt it. You crave it. Admit it.” I swallowed, unable to lie. “I do,” I admitted, my voice trembling. “I… crave you.” A slow, satisfied smile curved his lips. “Good,” he said. “Because desire is power, and tonight you will learn just how much you can handle.” He led me through the manor, down candlelit corridors that seemed endless, each room whispering of secrets and hidden histories. The storm outside raged, but inside, time slowed, measured only by the rhythm of our steps and the subtle brush of our hands. We entered the west wing—a part of the manor I had been warned never to explore alone. Yet here I was, guided by Gabriel, every step heightening both anticipation and tension. The room was warm, lit by a roaring fireplace, and yet it felt charged, electric, as if the walls themselves knew the danger and desire brewing inside. “Tonight is not just about observation,” he said, voice low and commanding. “It is about learning. About boundaries, trust, and surrender. And if you fail… the consequences are not trivial.” My stomach twisted. He meant every word, and yet I was drawn to him with a force I could not resist. “I… want to learn,” I whispered, voice firm despite the tremor in my hands. He stepped closer, his hands brushing mine lightly, almost teasing, almost threatening. “Then you will,” he said, eyes darkening. “But only if you trust me completely.” The air between us was thick with desire and danger. I realized then that this was more than attraction—it was a storm of emotions, power, and obsession, all focused on the fragile line between control and surrender. Every touch, every glance, every whispered word carried weight, as if the entire manor were holding its breath for us. Gabriel drew back slightly, studying me as if measuring the limits of my courage. “You are stronger than you realize,” he said finally, voice softening, almost tenderly. “And yet… there is much to learn. And tonight… you will begin.” I nodded, heart pounding, fully aware that I had crossed a threshold. Blackwood Manor, Gabriel Blackwood, and the storm between us had claimed me entirely. Desire, danger, and obsession intertwined, and I knew there was no turning back. Outside, the snow continued to fall, each flake a reminder of the cold world beyond the manor walls. But inside, warmth and fire consumed us both—a dangerous, intoxicating fire that promised both pleasure and peril.
