After that torrential downpour, Harold seemed to vanish completely from my world. No more all-night phone calls or endless text messages blowing up my phone nonstop. The familiar figure waiting downstairs in my office with a bouquet of tulips was gone for good. The silence that settled over my life was so quiet it felt almost unnatural. Every once in a while, I'd catch tiny snippets of news about him. He'd left the capital, but he hadn't gone back to California. Rumor had it he'd moved to some small city down south.
