“How are you with climbing?” Simone asked, looking up at a large tree. It was taller than the others in the area. “Well, I’m almost forty years old, out of shape, my leg hurts, and I haven’t climbed anything since I was ten.” “Fair enough.” She grabbed a branch and tested it to make sure it would hold her weight before pulling her leg up onto it. “What are you doing?” “What does it look like?” When he didn’t answer, she said, “What? Because I’m a girl I can’t climb a tree?” “No. It’s just dark and cold and it doesn’t seem safe.” She ignored him as she pulled herself onto the next branch and kept going, making her way at a slow pace, until Andy could no longer see her in the darkness but could hear her grunting and the sound of her shoes scraping the bark as she kept going.
