Chapter 2

Thomas Being the future alpha of the Blood Moon Pack had its ups and downs. One was the fact that at 18 years old instead of partying I gotta deal with ranchers. Yay right. So here I was at a gathering to show respect on behalf of our family to the humans that were part of our territory. Basically, I was here to see that our deal still stood with the humans. We protected them and their property and they did not go on a shooting spree on wolves. Not that they knew what we were but it kept the peace.  As me and my beta John hung out as far as possible, something hit me from behind. To say that it took me off guard was an understatement. When I turned, I locked eyes with her. She had the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. The depth of gray took my breath away. And if that was not enough her smell was like a refreshing summer breeze on the hottest of days.  She was outstanding. As John turned to see what was going in, he laughed and offered her a hand off the floor. When she stood, I could see that her hair was a dark brown in a simple braid that went past her waist. She had a blue t-shirt and jeans that were worn but fit her like a glove. Overall, her shape was an hourglass that some women dreamed of but would never achieve.  Before I could get out any words an older lady appeared and the look on her face made me cringe. Not seeing me she steps up to the young woman and without warning slapped her so hard the crack sounded like a gunshot ringing out.  Before I knew it my wolf was trying to push through, he wanted to protect her. I was fighting for control. But that sound kept ringing in my ears and her face pleading for help. A low growl was building up as someone took hold of my arm and pushed me back a few steps. Looking over, John was there shaking his head. "There is nothing we can do for her. That is the Rancher's wife man" he linked me.  Looking back at her she held her face with a hand, but not one tear spelled for her eyes. She lowered her head and in a small voice she spoke: "I'm sorry grandmother."  " There are dishes piling up in the kitchen. Do you think that they are going to magically clean themselves”? The rancher’s wife said "I swear you better get you sh*t together before I've had enough of you"   Without ever looking back up she rushed to the old ranch house. Then a haunting laugh came for the rancher’s wife. "I'm so sorry you had to see that, d*mn girl is always messing up." She stated and walked away as if this was just another normal day.  For some reason, my wolf was on edge. I could feel him wanting to tear that old lady apart. This was the first time he had ever lost control in this way. When I reached for him, " Lucian, what is going on with you?"  "You’re a fool to not know!" He growled and retreated to the back of my mind.   "John, I think it’s time to say our goodbyes, don't you," I said walking to the older man in the center of the gazebo.
