Thomas
I woke up around six to a feeling so of. It was like a part of me was sick, another part was lost in some mixture of emotions. Over the years I had gotten these feelings. Once I thought that I had broken my ankle just by standing on it. There had been a few other times where I had pains all over. But the doctors could never find the cause.
I knew today was going to be rough. The last thing I wanted was to head back over to the Duran Ranch and deal with those people, but being the future alpha I had no choice. After a long run and hot shower, I got dressed in more casual clothes than yesterday. If I was going to show off the new horse to its owner I had to look the part. Not that being a wolf ever mixed well with other animals sometimes.
An hour later we were back at the Ranch pulling up to the stables. My father had gotten the rancher a Sorraia Horse. One of the most beautiful creatures I had ever seen, in the sun it looked like a bronze statue. As far as I knew that beast was trained but very picky.
I was about to jump in the pen when a young lady came out of the stall with another stallion. In that same second, the Sorraia reared up and took off. Before anyone could react the stallions were going head to head. And just as quick as it had started it stopped. The young lady that I had assumed would be seriously hurt was standing with both her arms lifted, one palm on each stallion's head. They were both calm and whispering to her.
Looking around I caught eyes with the rancher. He laughed at my expression. “That is my Granddaughter Marissa. She has a gift for animals.”
“A gift is right. I've never seen someone able to do that before!’ John added with amazement. “If that had been anyone else they would be a dried mud hole.”
On queue, she jumped up bareback on the Sorria and was riding around the paddock. It was a beautiful sight. When she passed I got her sent again and Lucian was screaming at me. “That's mate Thomas. Go get our mate before we lose her.”
Looking at her again she was the one that had hit me from behind last night. Linking with John “Dude she’s my mate what do I do?”
His eyes widened and he took a minute to look between me and her. “While this is interesting. She’s good with beasts and she is a beauty” he linked back.
“This is not a fairytale smart *ss” I linked back. At that same time, Lucian was winning and trying to take control.
“Lucian, you need to chill, we need to take this slow, she's human.” With that, he stopped trying to push forward but was still pacing around in my mind.
“Can we meet her?” John asked the Rancher.
“She has her chores to finish. But after dinner maybe if she has time.” the rancher's wife added while walking up to her husband. She whispered something to him when reaching him.
“Thomas, don't you have a date with my other granddaughter this evening?” the wife added.
“ I promised to take a walk with her later this evening,” I said while Lucian growled at me for even thinking about it.
“That is so impersonal. So we planned a lunch picnic in one of the empty fields. Tiffany will be ready in 10 minutes if you are?” she said.
D*mn what was up with this lady and her other granddaughter. “If we refuse this Lucian we won’t get a chance to stay to meet our mate,” I said to him trying to get him to settle down.
“ I don’t like it, Thomes, I feel something is off here,” Lucian said. “ But if it means getting to meet mate I'll behave and go along.”
During that picnic, my mind kept going back to Marissa and her skills with animals. She would be an amazing Luna. But I just needed to figure out how I was going to talk to her and get her to like me. If she was a Wolf we would have the bond but she wasn’t. So I needed to create a bond with her slowly. I had known other wolves to find a fated mate in a human and all their journeys had been rough. It was hard seeing that they needed to learn that things that they thought were myths were real.
I know that Tiffany was getting frustrated with me and my question about her cousin. But what I had learned about Marissa was, she lost her mom when she was around 10 to a car accident and she had no other family. Within the hour I spent with Tiffany, I Learned that she was a spoiled brat used to getting her way. Two very different people were raised in the same family. In the end, she tried to get a kiss from me and when I moved, she fell face-first into a pie. She stormed off back to the Ranch house cursing under her breath.
Laughing, I bent down to pick up the picnic. After picking them up I left things on the ATV near the stables. I followed my mate's scent to the barn, up a narrow path from the rafters to the roof. Once on the roof, you could see for miles. It was beautiful.
