It was raining when they started their journey the next day. They ate quickly and and left. Prince Kallan put a glamour over them to protect from the rain. He seemed worried, periodically looking up into the sky with worry. The glamour kept them dry and warm yet it did nothing to disperse the gloom in the air. The storm didn't feel right to Iredesa. Ever so often Prince Kallan would stop and gauge the clouds, his expression souring worse every time. She wanted to ask him about it but sensed that he wasn't in the mood to talk about it. So they walked for several hours, the rain getting harder and the wind picking up with a ferocity that alarmed her and only made him scowl deeper and start muttering under his breath.
"Kallan? Should we stop? I can't really see anything in front of me and it seems like this storm is getting worse as we go." It was true, the calm serenity of yesterday was gone and in its place was this horrible sense of doom. Trees swayed and whipped debris at them. If it hadn't been for the glamour on them Iredesa was sure that she would have been knocked out a few times by limbs falling from the trees. The sky was an angry black with hues of purple and grey. Lightening flashed with crackles of thunder and bolts of yellow, white, and pink. Rain came down in waves of white, soaking everything around them. Some spots had water so deep that if she hadn't of been protected, she would have had water up to her knees a few times. And the rain was cold. Even through the glamour she could feel the icy chill of the rain and was certain that if she hadn't of had it she might well have caught hypothermia. The rain seemed almost malevolent, almost as if it wanted to hurt her. Which seemed absurd. But even so the weather seemed unnaturally aggressive.
"Looks like we might have to. I have a tent in my bag we can put up. Hopefully this storm will pass soon and we can continue. It's gonna put us a bit behind but I feel it may be too dangerous to continue." They stopped and he set up a tent swiftly in the rain, setting a glamour upon it as well to keep it dry. "Dinner may just have to be bread and cheese. I doubt we will find anything out in this rain. And the wood is too wet for a fire unfortunately. I can keep us moderately warm, but if it lasts through the night we may have to sleep next to each other for warmth." Iredesa nodded, apprehension knotting her stomach. Sleep next to Kallan. Great. As if her body didn't have a hard enough time resisting him now she was going to be in close quarters with him all night.
The idea terrified her. Yet it also thrilled her. "This rain is unlike anything I have ever seen. It seems so unnatural and angry. Almost as if it is alive and has its own personality. That's crazy right? The rain can't be alive can it?" Kallan remained silent for a moment, in deep thought. "Iredesa. There are some things I haven't told you yet. Not because I wanted to lie to you, but because I felt it was best to let you get adjusted before I hit you with anything more. This rain. Yes it feels wrong. And there is a good reason for it. It was sent to us to slow us down. To warn me. And to scare you off."
"Sent to us? What do you mean? By who?" Iredesa asked. "It was sent by Ember." Iredesa wracked her brain trying to remember the list of names he had given her. "Ember.. Payne? The Unseelie princess? Why would she be trying to scare me off? I don't even know her." He sighed, rubbing his hands through his hair. "She and I. Well. We had a thing a long time ago. She seemed to be under the impression that I would one day take her as my wife. I cut her off fifty years ago and still she thinks that she will marry me. Even though I have made it clear that I would never take her as my wife. It seems she has found out where I have been for the last few weeks and is not too happy about it. This is her having a temper tantrum." Iredesa blanched. "A temper tantrum? This is just a temper tantrum? She is flooding the entire forest and you say this is just her throwing a fit. And because she is what? A scorned lover? Because she didn't get you and instead you are choosing to marry a human? Hold on... Am I just a way to make her jealous? A pawn in some crazy scheme between you and her? Because if I am then I want out. I don't want to get in the middle of a lovers quarrel." He laughed, a sick and deprecating laugh that caused her to stop her speech.
"No. This is no lovers quarrel. And I could care less how she feels about you and I. I have been done with her for fifty years now and I do not intend on ever having her back. I chose you because you were everything I was searching for in a wife. I told you that I learned everything about you I could before I came to you. I scryed you several times, eager to meet the beauty that was raved about. I watched you from afar before I even considered making this journey. I had to know that you were a good match for me. You have nothing to do with her. And she damn sure has nothing to do with you. I didn't realize she would find out so soon. I thought for sure I would have had you back in Tiernim where I could better deal with the issue. She would never dare to attack Tiernim. Would never dare to start a war. But if you die before you make it and are officially declared Princess of Tiernim, then what is it really to the Fae if one human girl dies?"
Ember would kill her over him? He had said as much the day they met, yet she had thought it boasting as men do. It seemed that it was no boast. She hadn't even made it to the border and somehow she already had an enemy in Puerr Terra. And a powerful one it seemed judging from the storm that still battered their tent. She was miles and miles away and somehow her power still reached. Iredesa was certain she didn't want to be anywhere near Ember Payne if she could help it.
As the day progressed the storm showed no sign of stopping. It was still just as wild and frightening as it was when they had stopped and made camp. "How is it that the storm is still this wild? Surely she is tired?" Iredesa asked, peaking her head out of the tent before ducking back in. "This is like an imprint of her power. She probably isn't even focused on us at this moment. She has always been a fickle and conceited woman. She lashed out in her anger and this is the result." Iredesa gulped. "Are you even sure it's her?" He nodded his head, his hair brushing against his cheeks. "As I said. This is like an imprint of her power. You can feel her in the wind. Every Fae has a psychic fingerprint. Some are more subtle and others blatantly obvious. Some are able to mask their fingerprint. Those are the ones kingdoms use for spying. Ember is a very in your face kind of Fae. She wants everyone to be very aware of her. She craves attention. Her magic is no different. She is elemental. I've seen volcanos erupt when she is really mad. Elementals are suppose to master control so they don't cause a tsunami or an earthquake. Ember doesn't like to learn control. She wants to keep everyone wondering. She learned just enough to keep from killing us all. But not enough to control when her temper flares." Iredesa reconfirmed her desire to stay very far away from Ember.
They passed the time talking about their childhood. Iredesa regaling stories of climbing trees, much to her fathers horror, and sneaking out to catch fireflies. Kallan talked about getting chased out of a Crodh Sithe farm trying to steal milk. He had made a bet with one of his friends. He also spoke of the festivals and plays. Iredesa enjoyed the conversation because it served as a distraction to the raging storm outside. They snacked on cheese and jerky, Iredesa even pulling out one of the coveted fruit pies that she had in her pack. She cut it into two pieces and offered one to Kallan who smiled and accepted it with a pleased look on his face. They ate the pie slowly, Iredesa thinking of home. Her father was probably worried sick about her. She wondered how far the storm stretched and if her father was too sitting inside eating a fresh pie that Marinca had baked. Right now would be the time that the bakers and cooks were in full speed preparing dinner. Her father would be in his study usually. A slice of pie and a nice glass of wine beside him on the table with maps and ledgers sprawled out everywhere. Her heart ached to see them again. But the ache was slightly less as she looked at Kallan.
He wasn't as bad as he had seemed four days ago. He was intelligent and funny. His stories of his childhood had her doubled over laughing. She could picture him clearly running from the angry farmer who had caught him in the Crodh pasture. He was kind from what little she had witnessed of him in first her city and then Border Hollow. And he was handsome. His hair was the color of a clear night sky. And his eyes that she had previously swore looked like chips of ice were actually a multitude of shades of blue that was hard to describe. There was flex of steel blue and patterns. Also shades of sky and cerulean. And if you looked closely you could see highlights of turquoise. They were definitely eyes that would draw you in. He wasn't overly tall and he wasn't a bulky man. He was lean and average in height. His skin was paler than most but was not so pale that it looked as if he had never seen the sun. Many women would be more than proud to have him as their husband. His looks and his title made him a very eligible bachelor even in the human realm. Him being Fae may have put a damper on most women's affections. But she was very sure that if he had showed up and requested a bride from any royal family they might not have hesitated to make good with the Fae.
The storm finally slowed down, The wind dying, yet a light misting of rain still continued. Iredesa had long since pulled her cloak around her, already feeling the chill in the air. Kallan muttered a few words and the temperature in the tent got slightly less cold but still didn't fully get rid of the chill. "This is the best I can manage without lighting a fire. Embers' fingerprint still lingers and is making the air colder than necessary. She understands that I will have to stretch my glamour over both you and I and that it will weaken the strength of it. Her goal is to have it cold enough that you get sick and are unable to keep going. We do have the option of body heat. Something she probably didn't think about." Iredesa nodded, "Can she see us?" He shook his head, "No. She doesn't have the scrying ability like I do. I'm not even one hundred percent she fully knows the details. But I know she has spies in my kingdom that would report to her that I have been gone for weeks. I can only guess that she found out the why of things. The imprint held a certain specific goal in mind. I could feel the yearning for inflicting pain upon whoever was with me."
"I don't understand one thing. Why did you end it with her? She is a princess and you are a prince. Wouldn't it have made sense to marry her?" Kallan was already shaking his head. "No. Well. Technically if you go by traditional marrying from high stature for power then yes. But Ember is a cruel and spoiled child. I say child because she has never acted like a grown woman. She uses people and casts them away. She never thinks of anyone but herself. She doesn't love me. She finds the crown I will inherit the most interesting part of me. If I were to marry her that would have her having ties to two kingdoms. And as I told you earlier, I don't want a bride that has loyalties to another court. She isn't trustworthy. At one time I may have looked past her petulant and self absorbed attitude. I might could have convinced myself that I loved her. But she.... I just... Some things are unforgivable and she will never hold my heart." Iredesa could tell that he didn't want to open those flood gates so she left it alone. She nibbled on a piece of cheese as he changed the subject to his friends in Tiernim. The people he saw as his closest allies.
"There is Esper. She is a Devas fairy. But don't let her small stature fool you. She is one of the best spies around and is equally vicious to those she doesn't hold loyalty to. Then Jara. Jara is Folleti. He is actually the one who created the Folleti baskets blueprints. He is one of the smartest men I know. He is also the peace keeper of the four of us. Next is a man that if I would claim anyone as my brother it would be him. Rennyn. He is high Fae as well. A skilled warrior and one of the bravest as well as thickheaded men I know. He would battle an entire army to prove himself if we would let him. But he is also the kindest to those who are weaker. He ensures that those who cannot defend themselves have a champion." Iredesa smiled. "It sounds like you are surrounded by wonderful people then. I never knew what it was like to have friends."
"That will change. I hope that one day you will call my friends yours. They are eager to meet the woman that caused me to abandon my duties and cross the border." Iredesa nodded nervously. Even in the world of the Fae she would still always be an outsider as a human. They continued talking as the day turned to night with the rain still misting around them. Iredesa was getting nervous knowing that all too soon she would be sleeping next to Kallan to keep warm. Her body was already tingling, fully aware of his presence. Her mind remembering the kisses they had already shared and how it had made her feel. She wondered how it would feel to have him kiss her in other areas. To have his hands on her body and her hands on his. She wasn't quite sure what to think about the feelings that she was having. At twenty years old her body was finally coming alive and feeling the things she had only ever read about in books. Kallan seemed to sense the shift in her thoughts because he became very still and his eyes darkened.
"Iredesa. You are projecting again. And the things you are thinking are something I am very certain will have us going down a road that neither one of us can come back from. I would not wish your first time to be in a tent in the middle of the woods but if you don't shift your thoughts it very well may be. I'm an honorable man. But I have my limits. And you looking at me like that and the thoughts going on in that pretty little head of yours may just cause me to do less than honorable things to you." For some reason the thought of him doing less than honorable things to her sent her heart to racing and her mind into overdrive. She looked at him, biting her lip. The world seemed to stop for a brief moment before her mind zeroed in and she whispered one single word. "Please."
"Damnit Iredesa." Kallan cursed, reaching for her and kissing her. She hesitated for only a moment before she leaned in closer and kissed him back with the same amount of passion he was giving. He unpinned her hair from her head and allowed it to cascade around them like a black silk curtain. Her heart was hammering in her chest as he nipped at her lips and caressed her neck. Her body was alive with electricity and fire. She felt as if she was going to go up into flames. "Tell me to stop. Tell me to stop or I wont be able to Iredesa." She answered by climbing onto his lap and biting his lip, licking the small pain away. He growled low in his throat. She could feel his desire pressing against her leg. For a brief moment the size of it scared her, but then she felt her body shift and somehow it made her even hotter. She could feel moisture pooling between her legs at the thought of him sliding inside her. Kallan groaned when she slid herself even closer to him, running herself across the bulge in his pants. He tore off her cloak, flinging it to the side as he loosened the strings to her shirt. He stopped kissing her, sliding the shirt over her head. He sucked in a breath as he eyed her naked breasts. Her n*****s were taught and swollen with desire. Her breasts jutting out with every breath she took. She made to cover herself, suddenly nervous, but he caught her arms and pinned them down.
"Please." She whispered again, her skin on fire. The cold outside was long forgotten from the inferno that was building in the tent. She didn't know what to think, almost forgot how to breathe, when he bowed her body back and licked and bit a path down from her neck to her breasts. He flicked his tongue over her n****e, causing her to cry out, before taking it into his mouth and gently biting down. Fiery shocks of lightening traveled down until they reached her core and tightened and coiled. Her body begged for release, her mind wrapped up in a blaze that she was sure would consume her. Kallan picked her up, wrapping her legs around his waist as he towered over her and laid her down onto her bedroll. He looked down at her and asked again. "Iredesa. Do you want me to stop? I don't think I will have the strength to ask again. So think about this carefully. Are you sure that this is what you want?" She looked up at him, her body on fire and her breathing erratic. His eyes were the darkest shade of blue she had ever seen. His manhood straining against the fabric of his pants. She wasn't sure how to convey what she wanted from him, was unsure of the words to use. She opened her mind and touched his, feeling his walls come down as he let her in. His knees buckled as she mentally showed him what she wanted.
He said nothing else as he undid his shirt and discarded it where her cloak now lay abandoned. His chest rippled as he crawled over her. She sucked in a breath as he trailed a finger down her chest to the edge of her pants. "Take them off for me Iredesa. I want to see all of you." She reached down and slowly slid her pants off, never breaking eye contact with him. She had never felt so bold or alive in her entire life. Her body was tingling with anticipation, driven by a wild, primal need. His eyes slowly roamed over her body, drinking it in like a sponge to water. She squirmed eagerly, unsure of what to do but needing to do something. "You're so eager. So responsive. What will you do when I do this?" He asked as he took his fingers and stroked the base of her c**t lightly. She arched her back, breathlessly moaning from the shocks of pleasure that jolted her body. "Yes. You like that my dear? What about this?" He applied more pressure, rubbing a bit more firmly. She cried out, clutching at his arms.
"Kallan." She breathed, unsure of what she was asking for, but knowing she wanted it. "You want more?" he asked as he stroked her swollen c**t slowly and leisurely. She could feel herself getting more and more wet as he steadily tormented her. She wanted more pressure, wanted to feel the sting of pain. Yet couldn't bring herself to ask for it just in case it disgusted him. "Show me what you want little raven." Frantically she sent the thought of more pressure to him, her body begging for it. He laughed as she wiggled under him, her breathing erratic and ragged. "As you wish." With that he leaned down and bit her neck, not enough to make her bleed but enough that she knew it would leave a mark.
She cried out in pleasure, her back arching even more. The moment her body lifted he inserted one finger inside of her and bore down on her c**t with enough pressure to cause a bite of pain. Her world erupted around her and her body began convulsing, her core tightening around his finger. He plunged it in and out of her, catching her screams with his lips as he kissed her again. Just as her body went limp and her world started to shift back into focus he withdrew his finger from her and replaced it with his tongue and she exploded again. He licked and sucked, his tongue plunging in and out of her swiftly. She moved against him, his arms holding her legs in place as he feasted upon her. Another wave took over and she called out his name once more, grasping at him. With one final lick he pulled back and crawled up to lay his head upon her neck briefly. He kissed her, causing her to taste her desire on his lips. It should have repulsed her, but she found that it only made her body clench eagerly.
"That is enough for tonight little raven. If we keep going I fear I might die." She nodded, seeing stars and still unable to speak. Mentally she asked, What about you? I.. I see that you are... I mean... You haven't. He chuckled, settling down beside her and covering them with her blanket. "Don't worry about me Iredesa. I will be fine. Sleep." She had no energy left to argue, her body sated and weak with pleasure. He kissed her temple as she drifted off to sleep curled in his arms.
