Point of View:
Tyler Baile
Anastasia what is happening out there?
Tyler where are you?
I’m just outside the Alchemy building.
Stay there! I’m on my way with a patrol.
What is happening?
A raid.
“Brock stay with me, my friend is coming,” I said as I came to a stop.
“How do you know?”
“She is a vampire, we share a blood connection.” I said just as Anastasia and her vampire patrol came sprinting around the buildings surrounding us.
“Tyler!” She exclaimed as she swooped me into a hug. I held onto her and gave a sigh of relief.
“Who is raiding the school?” I asked her as we let go of each other.
“UC,” She said.
“How can we help?” Brock asked taking off his jacket and shirt revealing his six-pack.
“Stay here and do not get involved.” A guard said.
“No we need them the headmistress gave the orders.”
“What orders?” I ask Anastasia.
“To fight in any way possible. All veils have been lifted so you won’t get hurt Ty,” Anastasia said as everyone took off in a sprint toward the rumbling and screams.
“Bout freaking time,” I said as my hands gripped tighter onto the potions.
“Everyone kill the enemy and try and rescue the students,” Anastasia barked before we all took off for the main battlefield. Everything was put into a mixture of slow motion and fast forward as we entered the fight. I remember it starting off like bat out of hell. I drew my wand and started causing roots to attack people and using sound waves to incapacitate them. I heard a chorus of wolf cries and turned to see Brock in mid transformation. He cried out just before taking off like a bullet. I lost my breath as I saw a wave of werewolves come from the west and bulldoze down the UC.
“Help!” Cried out a familiar voice. “Tyler!” I turned and saw Caroline from dance sprawled out on the ground crying clutching a boy in my history class, Alex I think was his name.
“What happened,” I asked rushing over there.
“I don’t know some guy was coming at me with a knife and Alex took on the guy but he stabbed him.” She cried as she moved her hands off of his bleeding wound.
“Don’t worry this should help,” I said using the Blue bottle. I pressed the bottle to his lips and his face twisted at the taste.
“Jesus, I am gonna puke,” He mumbled as he turned over and tried to.
“He’ll be fine bring him to the hospital wing so he can rest,” I told her before picking up my other bottles.
“Tyler!” Clayton called out to me.
“Clay!” I hollered back as he waved me over. I raced over to him and took down two guys who tried to come up behind him and the younger classmen he was defending.
“Ty you have got to get these freshmen out of here.”
“Like hell, do they know how to fight?” I asked him as a group of UC troops surrounded us.
“No, they barely know hand to hand combat and defensive spells.”
“Oh god,” I muttered as I grabbed Clayton’s hand and held him up as he kicked three men in the face. I jump kicked a woman in the jaw and kidney punched another one then I head-butted a man who grabbed one of the freshman. He fell down and grabbed my ankle and pinned me to the ground and tried to choke me. “Get off!” I roared and sent a wave of physical anger at him and launched him into the trees.
“Ty what can we do there are too many?”
“Well I have this as a last resort!” I said holding up the green potion.
“What is it?”
“An acid bomb.”
“WHAT!”
“It’s for alchemy don’t ask,” I said as I ushered the classman to Laney Hall. “Go! Take cover in the basement. If you need to head to the hospital, but only do so if you have an upperclassman,” I told the group of sixteen teenagers. Clayton grabbed the potion and sprinted off into the direction of the fighting.
“This should help!” He yelled as he tossed it high. “Shoot it Tyler!”
“Bala!” I was pressed down to the ground from the potion’s shockwave and screamed as I saw a man body slam Clayton to the ground. Screams reined the world as the acid fell from the sky. I scattered to my feet and shot the man who was on top of my roommate. I grunted from the stinging pain as I sprinted. “Clayton,” I said.
“Hey,” He choked out as blood poured from his jugular.
“Oh my god Clayton you gotta drink this,” I said with tears as I poured the last of the healing potion into his mouth. He choked and gagged as the taste hit his tongue. The blood receded back into his neck and the wound closed up. “Get to the hospital and don’t argue!” I ordered as I took off into another sprint into the center of the war.
Anastasia it’s me. In the event of my death I love you.
Tyler don’t even think about it!
Too late.
“Yo lo llamo la muerte en el alma!” I screamed as I ran into a man with a large sword. His smile faded and dropped to his knees dead. I picked up his sword and started running through and slashing people as I went. I was about to stab a woman who was strangling a suspected student but a wolf launched itself at me sending the sword flying high above me.
“Get off!” I yelled before biting the wolf’s neck. It cried out in pain as I kicked it off of me.
“TYLER!” I turned just as a bullet pierced my stomach. The world set itself into slow motion as I looked down to the bloody hole on my abdomen. I dropped to my knees and clutched onto my wand as I thought of one last spell. “Expulsar,” I whispered with force. The air rippled and people collapsed to the ground as I sent wave after wave of raw energy outward. The members of UC were either forced out or laid dead from the force. When the last one was off the grounds I dropped my wand and fell to the ground face first.
“TYLER!” I heard Anastasia whisper with tint of urgency. “Drink it come on. Drink my blood.” I snaked my tongue out trying to obey her command but it was no use, I was too tired. “DRINK!” I heard her scream. I tried once more and jolted as a drop of it hit my tongue. I opened my eyes and gripped her wrist and held it as I bit into it. She winced and nearly screamed but was happy I responded.
“Enough!” Justin said ripping her wrist free. I sat up coughing and wiped away the dribble of blood from the corner of my mouth. “Are you okay?” Justin asked getting down to my eye level.
“Yeah are you?” I asked nodding to the bite marks on his neck and his clearly bleeding torso.
“Yeah your bite didn’t hurt too,” He said as he helped me up.
“That was you why’d you stop me from getting that woman?”
“Because that was me,” The headmistress said coming over to us.
“Oh dear God I am so sorry!” I said as I saw how bruised she was.
“Don’t be you were quick to act,” She beamed as she gestured around us.
“It was an impulse to help everyone. This is my home for the time being,” I blushed as she dismissed Justin from my side.
“I just wanted you to know that you are quite the talk of the school, and now I can see why. You, Clayton Summers, and Brock Jost will be given medals of honor from the school.”
“Why I saw plenty of other students fighting with us,” I said as she brought me to the hospital.
“Yes but if it hadn’t been for your healing potion and the bomb potion you and Brock supplied we would have lost many students and staff. Then I believe a Miss Caroline Rivers stated that you managed to be level headed when she was frazzled with the stabbing of Alex Stroman. Not to mention sixteen students, plus Clayton, said you helped them to a safe environment free of UC agents.”
“When you put it like that yeah I helped a little but I saw others using the combat skills they learned in class with Mistress Tai Ming.”
“Skills you taught them, believe me I had a lengthy talk to her and she said from just watching you spar against other students they learned more than she could teach in a month of class. You gave them a taste of survival skills that you actually had to use. You have a greater impact than you think. Such as the expulsion spell. I have been teaching for thirty years and have never seen a student that powerful since I taught your father.”
“My dad?” I asked her as my heart faltered.
“Yes, Tyler you have him in you. Just accept the fact you have a great destiny.” She said as brought me to a nurse who was overrun with injured students. “Please do a check up on this one now,” She ordered before heading out.
“I can wait,” I said politely.
“Nonsense, what she wants get she gets,” She muttered as she came to me. She did everything that any normal person would go through for a physical and that was it.
“Do you need help?” I asked her as she signed the discharge papers.
“No, honey leave this to the staff, but thank you.” She said with a sad smile.
“Well you could use this,” I said handing her my healing potion formula.
“Are you that boy?” She asked looking down at the directions. “The one who helped save my son Alex?”
“Yeah, oh and leave out the essence of bog. I put it in there so drug addicts wouldn’t get addicted to it.” I said pointing to the bottom of the page.
“Thank you,” She said with a big smile. I turned away and started to walk but stopped.
“So how many are injured?” I asked turning around.
“103 injured, 10 are dead,” She paused and wiped her eyes, “23 are still missing.”
“Can students join the search party?” I asked.
“There won’t be one. The UC is long gone Professor Justin Thyro chased them down the mountain with the other teachers when you expelled them. At that time only 8 were dead and 25 were missing but he brought back Amy Sullivian and Jack Traut.” She said quietly as she looked over to the door that read morgue.
“I’m sorry,” I said before leaving the building. I walked out and saw teenagers walking around sobbing, picking up pieces of rubble or staring off into space. Evelyn was one of those.
“Evie,” I said calmly as I sat next to her on the grass.
“I saw her, Amy.” She said coldly.
“I’m sorry.”
“They had her covered but when I saw her short black pixie cut and her green wings I knew it was her.” She said as her own wings flapped in remembrance.
“How are you holding up?” I asked wrapping her up in a hug.
“I don’t know. I feel as if I said goodbye to her this morning during breakfast and that I’ll see her in music again but I know I won’t. Does that make sense?”
“It’s natural.”
“Hey how are you?” She asked wiping her tears away.
“Sore,” I said as I rubbed my stomach.
“Oh my god Ty you’re bleeding!”
“I was I was shot.” I said as I laid out on the grass.
“You are such a bad a…”
“Evie!” Anastasia and Clayton yelled as they came out of Laney hall which had been untouched. “Tyler!”
“Hey!” We said waving them over.
“Oh god Tyler,” Clayton said wrapping me in a hug. “Anastasia told me what happened. You were SHOT!” I simply nodded and hugged him back.
“Has anyone seen Brock? I want to thank him for helping me with the potions that helped save a lot of kids.” I said looking around.
“Oh,” Clayton said. He turned to Anastasia who looked uneasy.
“Ty, there is something you should know.” She said. “You may want to sit down. Brock is MIA. He was subdued by another werewolf and a witch picked him up and we haven’t found him yet.”
“What?” I asked. “That is impossible I mean he never would have gone down without a fight!”
“I’m sorry bro.”
“Who else is missing?”
“No one that you or I know,” Clayton said to me. I gave an inward sigh of relief. I got up off the grass and walked off around the campus and was alone with my thoughts. That was if Anastasia didn’t eavesdrop on them. I walked back out to the front gate where the attack had started and walked to where I had been shot. All the while I could stop thinking. Why would they do this? Where was the logic in all of this? Why attack a school? Why take captives?
“This just doesn’t make sense,” I whispered as I walked through the blood stain grass. I bent down and saw what I presumed to be the bullet that had shot me. I sighed inwardly and picked up the bullet. I screamed as it seared my mind. Images flashed in my mind as the pain increased. The images I saw were familiar: the school, Laney Hall, the forest behind it, the pound where I saw Justin. The next image was new it was, it was a large oak but hollowed out and in it the Pimelea. The imaged faded and the pain took on a whole new level. I dropped down on all four crying out as I felt my organs trying to rip themselves free. The last two images made no sense. A full moon and a woman’s face.
“TYLER!” Someone yelled as I continued to scream in agony. “Someone help! What’s wrong Ty?” My rescuer just picked me up and started sprinting.
“The pain oh dear god,” I grunted through tears, “AHHHH!” I dropped the bullet but the pain remained and continued to rise.
“Tyler, it’s Donavan. I got you,” Said a southern accent.
“Don, it hurts,” I cried out.
“I’m taking you to the hospital.”
“NO! I need Anastasia,” I said knowing her blood could stop this with one drop. I clutched onto Donavan with such a strong grip I thought I was going to snap him into two halves. He kicked down my bedroom door and laid me on the bed but I refused to let go of him.
“What is going on!” Clayton yelled over my screams of agonized pain as he came into the room.
“Stay with him, he needs Anastasia,” Donavan said as he tried to pry me off.
“No you stay I’ll go get her,” Clayton said before dashing away.
“Anastasia!” I cried out as I the pain became to the point of blacking out.
“I got you Ty,” He said sitting on the bed holding me. I grunted and continued to scream as he repeated the sentence over and over again.
“What happened?” Anastasia asked as she came in at a dead sprint.
“I don’t know he was looking at something down on the ground and then he was screaming his head off. I was out with a patrol picking up rubble and seeing if there were any survivors.” Donavan tried to say over my screams. Anastasia nodded and swiftly and gently took me out of his arms and opened the vein on her forearm and pressed it to my lips.
“An,” I murmured as I slowly drank the blood.
“Not now, you need to drink,” She soothed as she smoothed out my completely sweat-drenched hair. I did as she asked and when I felt better I removed her arm and got out of her arms.
“You okay?” Donavan asked stepping closer to me unsure if to hug me or pat me on the back. I nodded and shakily let go of the breath I had been holding.
“I found it,” I said turning to Anastasia and Clayton.
“You did?”
“Where?”
“Found what?” Donavan asked. I paused and looked to him with a look that said I had forgotten he was in the room.
“Uh…the bullet,” I said quickly.
“And that’s why you were crying out in pain?”
“No,” Anastasia said standing up, “He didn’t drink enough blood earlier when I revived him. His stomach started to bleed and his liver was so bruised it started failing. Thank you for finding him when you did. Now,” She said turning to me and pointed to the bed, “rest and obey this time.” I nodded and with the help of Clayton I got into bed.
“Well I’ll leave you guys and make sure he recovers okay?” Donavan asked Clayton and Anastasia. They nodded and closed the door as he left.
“The bullet showed me,” I said once Anastasia had locked the door.
“That much was obvious, you were having another vision. What’s different about this one is that it was forced on you. That’s why it hurt so badly.” Anastasia said as she sat on the bed.
“Where is it?” Clayton asked.
“I don’t know exactly but I had a good idea,” I said sitting up.
“I just texted Evelyn to bring down the maps from our room.” Anastasia said looking up from her phone.
“Good well I know for sure that is behind Laney Hall,” I said just as Evelyn fluttered into the room.
“Hey,” she said smiling as she laid the map on the bed.
“Hey,” I replied back as I grabbed my red sharpie. I circled the lake, “I saw this in the vision, and I think it’s either a land mark or entrance to the Pimelea.” I said before circling two thick wooded areas. “These two areas are known for having the campus’ largest oak trees. We are looking for a large hollow oak. Once we find it we need to find the opening and either move the plant and perform the ceremony or break it in the tree and perform the ritual.” I said looking at them both.
“Is the potion ready?” Evelyn asked.
“I only have three doses,” Clayton said.
“Then it’s settled,” Anastasia said as she stood up.
“What?”
“Think about I am a vampire and not a student. Should there be any trouble I could defend you guys and the talisman.”
“I don’t know, the ritual also requires there to be celestial event have occur as we do the ritual.” Evelyn said as she went over her notes. The air in Anastasia’s hope dwindled until next month when the full moon would occur.
“You guys,” I said as I looked to my calendar. “There is a new moon tomorrow night and if my knowledge is correct that is most certainly a celestial event.”
“He’s right!” Clayton said jumping up excited to get this silly thing over with.
“Evie, you ready to do it tomorrow night?” Anastasia asked her.
“Of course but what about you,” she asked gesturing to me.
“I’m so ready,” I said. “Okay tonight we’ll rest up and tomorrow during the day we can scout out and say we are looking for survivors but actually scout for the tree. We will split into two groups Evelyn and me, and you two,” I said pointing to Anastasia and Clayton. “Anastasia and I have blood connection and we can communicate through it. It is a much safer way than using texts or spells. The potions should last twenty-four hours so we need to make them count.” I said to the group.
“Okay but you need rest as do we all.” Clayton said yawning.
“We all are in agreement right?” I asked one last time.
“Without a doubt.” Anastasia said for the group. I smiled and laid back in the bed.
“Night you guys.”
“Night Ty,” The girls said before picking up the maps.
“See you guys tomorrow,” Clayton said to them as he walked them out. Clayton crawled into his bed. I was out before he turned off the lamp.
