2 - Coralanna's 16th Birthday

Coralanna POV     It had been almost a year since I started training with Sasha to be a pack doctor.  I still hadn't unlocked any of my special abilities, but my wolf finally started talking to me occasionally.  She still hid most of the time, but at least she was starting to come back out of her shell.       It was my sixteenth birthday, and Sasha said she had something special planned for me.  Just before lunch, she left me in charge at the clinic, while she went to get us something to eat.  I got to eat a little more those days when I was working at the pack clinic.  When I wasn't working at the clinic, it was a totally different story.     When Sasha returned, she had two take out containers.  One was full of salad, and the other had a cluster of barbecue ribs.  She split the food in half and handed me a plate, as she enthusiastically chirped, "Enjoy your birthday lunch.  You deserve it."     I flashed her a wide smile, before I ate the food like I hadn't ate in years.  It was so delicious, and I was very happy that she had gone out of her way to do something special for me.       When we were done eating, she handed me a gift bag, as she affectionately remarked, "Happy Birthday, sweetie.  I hope the rest of your special day goes good for you."     "Thank you, Sasha," I happily replied, as I pulled a pretty light purple sundress out of the bag.  It was beautiful with little, yellow sunflowers all over it.  There was also a pack of new panties and a pack of new socks in the bottom of the gift bag.       It was the first time anybody had given me a birthday present since my parents died, and I couldn't control the emotions that suddenly overwhelmed me. A second later, tears sprang to my eyes, as I let out a little sob.       Sasha immediately wrapped her arms around me, as she worriedly asked, "What's wrong, sweetie?  I thought you would be happy with the present."     "I am so very happy.  It's just... this is the first present anybody has given me since my parents were killed.  I love the present, thank you," I quickly replied, not wanting her to think I didn't appreciate what she had done for me.       "Well, there's more," she exclaimed as she opened a cabinet and pulled out a cake.  After she set it down in front of me, she sang 'Happy Birthday' to me, before she cut us both a piece.  As soon as we finished eating, we got back to work.  The day was fairly quiet at the clinic, and I was grateful.       As I walked back to my little bitty room in the pack house while holding my gift bag, I couldn't stop the smile that had plastered itself on my face.  It was a rare occurrence for me to walk through the pack house with a smile.       Not only that, it was the first time I walked through the house with a gift bag, so as you can imagine, I got quite a few weird looks from the other pack members.  Of course, I ignored them all as I continued to my room.       As I got closer to my room, I was suddenly shoved against the wall.  Instantly, I looked up into the dark brown eyes of Mark.  He had the same dark eyes as his dad, and I couldn't stand to look at either of them for very long, so after a second I looked away.  That's when he roughly squeezed my face and made me look back at his eyes, as he snarled, "Why are you smiling, and where did you get that gift bag?"         I jerked my head out of his grasp, then I calmly replied, "Sasha gave me a gift for my birthday.  She said it was for all of the stuff I've been doing to help her at the pack clinic."     "You better not be lying to me," he growled as he spun on his heel, then he started to walk away.  After a few steps, he turned around and smirked at me, as he huskily commented, "You shouldn't smile like that, it makes me want to f*ck you."     My smile instantly dropped at those words.  No way would I ever want him or anybody else from this pack touching me in that way.  I would rather be hit by these mother f*ckers than be touched like that.      I put my head down and quickly walked the rest of the way to my room.  I could hear him laughing, as he continued to walk down the hall away from me.       When I got to my room, I put my gifts into the dresser with the few other things I had acquired over the last six years.  It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing.       I was feeling a little tired, so I laid down and rested for a little while.  I hadn't intended on falling asleep, because I knew they would expect me to help with dinner, but I accidentally fell asleep anyways.     A little while later, I got woke up by Beta Larry, who snatched me off the bed and shoved me against my dresser.  He stared at me menacingly, as he angrily growled, "What the f**k are you doing?  Why are you sleeping when you are supposed to be helping cook dinner?"     "I'm sorry, I was tired from working at the clinic, and I just passed out.  I didn't plan to fall asleep, it just happened," I tried to explain, but he didn't care.       Before I could say anything else, his fist connected to my mouth, and it instantly made my lip split open.  I gasped in disgust and pain, as the taste of blood filled my mouth.  I had always hated that taste, and it always made me want to puke.       Within seconds, I started dry heaving.  I tried not to vomit my birthday lunch all over him, but there was no stopping it.  All of sudden, everything I ate earlier in the day came spewing out all over him.     "What the f*ck, you stupid f*cking hybrid?" he angrily roared, as his fist connected to my face again, and this time he completely knocked me out.     When I regained my consciousness, I was laying in a small pool of blood that had seeped out of my lip and nose from being punched twice by Beta Larry.  Right away, I mind linked Sasha and asked her to bring some medical supplies to my room.     Within a few minutes, she entered my room with a bag full of different medical supplies.  At that point, I hadn't even attempted to get up from the spot on the floor where I woke up.  My head was throbbing way too bad, and I felt so dizzy that I was scared I would just fall right back down if I even tried.       As soon as Sasha saw me, she gasped in shock, and for a few seconds, she just stared at me with tears in her eyes, then she snapped out of it.  She quickly scooped me up off the floor, then she laid me on my little bed.  After that, she got some barely warm water out of the tiny sink that was in the itty bitty bathroom connected to my bedroom.     When she returned, she started cleaning the blood off of my face.  She didn't ask me any questions about what happened until after she had stitched up my busted lip.  I could see her tears rolling down her cheeks the whole time she cleaned and mended my new wounds.  When she was finished, she flashed me a small smile, as she warily asked, "Why did they do this to you this time?"     "I was tired when I got back here, so I laid down.  I didn't mean to fall asleep, but I did.  When I didn't go down to help with dinner, Beta Larry woke me up and asked me why.  I tried to explain, but he didn't want to hear it.  He punched me twice, the second one knocked me unconscious.  I mind linked you as soon as I woke up," I quickly explained, as I tried not to cry.     "Sweetie, I still think you should run away from here.  I swear to you, I will do whatever I can to help you leave this horrible place and get away from these ruthless people that insist on hurting you for no good reason," she sincerely stated.     "Sasha, I know I should leave, but I don't have anywhere to go.  I don't know if I have any family, because I only met one aunt before my parents were killed, and who knows if she is alive or where she lives.  If I had a safe place to go, I would leave," I deadpanned.     "Tell you what, I am going to start asking around and see if I can find somewhere for you to go," she thoughtfully replied before she stood up and headed to my door.  She turned around and smiled, as she sympathetically mumbled, "I will see you in the morning at the clinic.  You stay here and rest.  I will let the Alpha know that you are hurt and need to be left alone," then she left and closed the door behind her.       I stayed where she left me, in my little bed.  I laid there and thought about how nice it would be to get the hell away from this ruthless pack of heartless wolves.  They didn't care about anybody but themselves, and I felt nothing but loathing for every single one of them except Sasha.  She was the only one in the Red Moon Pack that ever treated me with kindness, and I would be forever grateful to her. Anton POV     I was in Alpha Damien's office talking to him about different defense strategies we could use against the rogues the next time they attack our pack, when out of nowhere I felt a wave of nausea hit me.  It must have showed on my face, because Alpha Damien furrowed his eyebrows at me, as he anxiously asked, "Are you okay, Anton?  You don't look so well at the moment."     I flashed him a weak smile, as I warily mumbled, "Yep, I'm fine.  Just a slight wave of nausea."  I couldn't help but think to myself, what the f*ck was that.  Luckily, the nausea went away as fast as it began.       "Okay Anton, I will take your word on it," he sheepishly replied, as he looked at me warily.     "Alpha, I swear I am fine, but I am going to check on Andrea and make sure she is okay, just in case I was feeling her nausea or something," I thoughtfully responded.     "That is a good idea.  Let me know if anything is wrong," he adamantly stated, as I stood up, then I bowed to him before I left his office.     I found Andrea hanging out in Jada's bedroom.  She appeared to be having fun, as the two girls giggled while they played Monopoly.  She had grown up so much since we lost our parents, and I couldn't help but to feel a sense of pride whenever I saw her smiling and happy.       She was seventeen now, and I knew it was just a matter of time before she found her mate and most likely moved away.  That thought made me sad, because I knew that once she left, I would have no blood family left in the pack.       I just hoped to find my mate before that time came.  I had thought many times about how I much I would cherish my mate when I did find her.  There wasn't anything that I wouldn't do for her if I got lucky enough to cross paths with her.
