Chapter 21

“Lixue?” Shuji inquired to the bodyguard he encountered in the living room. “Sir, she’s in the underground,” the bodyguard responded to Shuji. Shuji sat on the sofa, contemplating the revelation he had about Lixue’s true nature. He recalled Lixue mentioning to him that his father was aware of the truth and promptly took his cellphone from his pocket and dialed his father’s number. Calling… Papa (Raiden): You’ve been called, son? How are your workouts with Leatrice going? Shuji: Watashi wa shinjitsu o shitte imasu, Papa, kanojo wa honmyo no reatorisude wa arimasendeshitashi, kanojo wa futsu no joseide wa arimasendeshita. (I know the truth, Papa. She wasn’t Leatrice. Her real name was different, and she wasn’t an ordinary woman.) Papa (Raiden): Did she confess to you? Shuji: Yes, in the wrong circumstances, Papa. Papa (Raiden): Why did you become involved? (How did that happen?) Shuji: Watashitachiha shashin satsuei-chu ni kanojo no tsubasa ga dete kite odoroita nodesuga, karera wa rikusu ga mahoda to omottanode, watashi wa kanojo no ato o otte rizoto-nai ni modorimashitaga, kanojo no bodigado ga kanojo ga bichi ni iru to ii, kanojo ga tsubasa no ushiro ni kiete iku no o mimashita. (We were in a photoshoot when her wings unexpectedly appeared, and they mistook her for a magician. I followed her back inside the resort, but her bodyguard informed me that she was on the beach and that I had seen her disappear behind her back, her wings.) Papa (Raiden): Sonogo? (And then?) Shuji: Kanojo wa watashi ni uso o tsuite imasenshi, jibun no shotai o mitomemashitaga, darenimo iwanaide kudasai to ii, anata wa sore o shitte iru to iimashita. (She isn’t lying to me and has admitted her true identity, but she has asked me not to tell anyone and has said that you know it.) Papa (Raiden): Hai, watashi wa kanojo no hahaoya to imoto ga kako 10-nenkan akuma to tatakatta tame ni shinda koto o yoku shitte imasu. (Yes, I am well aware that her mother and sister perished because they fought against the evil demons for the past decade.) Shuji: Soshite, race of subete ga okottanode, kanojo wa kawarimashita ka? (And everything that happened to them, so did she change?) Papa (Raiden): Yes, her heart has hardened, and she doesn’t trust anyone immediately except for what she used to. Shuji: She trusts me. Papa (Raiden): Yes. Shuji: Something told me that I don’t understand its meaning. Papa (Raiden): What did she tell you? Shuji: Our father said that I was chosen to be chosen in the prophecy. Dad (Raiden): …. Shuji: Dad? Papa (Raiden): She chose you, but you will still decide your life, son. She means about your future. I can’t explain to you if your career is work or about love. Shuji: …. Papa (Raiden): Son, the trust she gave you for life, don’t break it. If you break it, she’ll be angry, and everything has a price. Shuji: Papa… Papa (Raiden): She will help you escape from your stalker, Aiya, not in exchange for us helping her now, but she will do it for our family. Shuji: She’s been teaching me martial arts. It’s hard at first, but with her help, I’m getting better. Papa (Raiden): Because you trust her and know you’re safe by her side. Shuji: Just trust… not with my heart because I know I’ll hurt someone if my heartbeat changes. Shuji’s father didn’t respond. He held her in his heart when his girlfriend came to mind. Shuji pressed the end call and got up to go to the kitchen. He mixed two cups of coffee and poured them into two cups with a spoon. “Just a friend. Don’t let my feelings for her grow,” Shuji whispered to himself and pressed a hallow block stuck to the wall, which opened into an elevator. When Shuji reached the underground, he found Lixue holding a sword. Shuji stared at Lixue’s serious face. He placed his tray on top of the drawer and saw various weapons in place as another drawer opened. “L–ixue, good morning. She told me you were here. I brought you something to drink.” Shuji approached Lixue. Lixue paused and lowered her sword. Shuji held the sword and saw the steel blade. “Do you want to learn to use a sword instead of a gun?” Lixue asked Shuji. “Can it be both?” Shuji asked, dropping the sword beside Lixue. “Let’s test you first in self-defense. You’ll fight me, and one of us will win. If you win, you’ll be on to the next level of practice,” Lixue said. She pressed a button, and Shuji spoke quietly. They returned to the first practice. Shuji mimicked every move of Lixue, who was practicing alone on a standing wooden dummy. Shuji even recognized a man in the picture with a martial arts style. “Who is he?” Shuji asked Lixue, pointing to the picture. “Uncle Lei. He’s dad’s cousin, and he’s a pure angel. The two of them used to teach us together with your Papa,” Lixue replied, looking at what Shuji was doing. “Your dad’s cousin? And he teaches you with Papa? How did the three of them meet?” Shuji asked Lixue. “That’s why I don’t know how they became friends, especially since dad and Uncle Lei aren’t human,” Lixue replied to Shuji. A bodyguard arrived, and Shuji’s practice began. He fought with the bodyguard. “Don’t think your opponent is a woman, Shuji. Think of them as your stalker’s spy,” Lixue said to Shuji. Lixue smiled but also felt worried about Shuji’s wounds. “Time’s up! Tomorrow again,” Lixue said, blocking the two who were fighting. Lixue’s bodyguard nodded and turned to leave the room. “Come! Let’s go to your room, and I’ll treat your wounds,” Lixue said, approaching and grabbing Shuji’s hand, who was speechless due to shock. Shuji was shocked when Lixue interrupted the fight. He was also shocked when he held Lixue in his arms and felt electric as though he was holding his girlfriend’s hand. “T-this can’t be…” Shuji shook his head as he let Lixue hold him by the hand. When they returned upstairs, they walked into Shuji’s room. Shuji opened the door when Lixue looked at him. When they entered the room, Shuji sat on the couch and winced as he felt pain all over his body. “Take off your clothes. I’ll just get a first aid kit from inside your bathroom,” Lixue said, immediately turning around and entering the bathroom. Shuji remained silent and slowly got up, reaching for his bed blanket before undoing his shirt. “If you’re intimidated, don’t look at me,” Lixue warned Shuji, who was staring at her. Lixue took a cotton swab and applied betadine to Shuji’s wound. Before she could finish, Shuji stabbed her in the wound and smeared blood on her. “Ouch! That hurts…” Shuji exclaimed, closing his eyes in pain. Lixue blew Shuji’s wounds, covered them with her palm, and wielded her power. Shuji was surprised when Lixue kissed him on the lips. He stared wide-eyed at her closed eyes. “Your wound has healed, but I’ll still put a bandage on it so they won’t notice,” Lixue said, opening her eyes and walking away a bit. “W—you—kissed me? You know I have a girlfriend,” Shuji stammered, suddenly regaining some composure. “Because I have to heal quickly so that your wound can heal faster,” Lixue explained as she bandaged Shuji’s wound. They both ate after Lixue finished treating Shuji’s wound. Afterward, Lixue introduced all the resort employees and managers to Shuji. Shuji was shy because, for the first time in his life, he was being introduced to others. “When you pursue your law course, I’ll recommend you to my dad,” Lixue said to Shuji. Shuji didn’t respond because he didn’t understand Lixue’s meaning. Lixue left Shuji in the middle of the pool, surrounded by guests and tourists. Shuji looked around before returning to the resort and going to the restricted area where there was a path leading to the mansion. Shuji couldn’t comprehend how he would feel after Lixue kissed him and how his mind would react, knowing it was wrong.
