Chapter 4: Never Let Her Regret!

1235 Words
"Mom, I've told you many times. I'm not going to divorce Alexander," Evelyn said, her voice weary. "This time you must!" Eleanor's tone was firm and decisive, "Evelyn, I can listen to you on other matters, but not this one. If you don't divorce Alexander this time, then I will have to act as if I don't have a daughter from now on." Evelyn stared at Eleanor, understanding for the first time that her mother was serious. Eleanor had suggested a divorce a few times before, but each time Evelyn shook her head, Eleanor would drop the matter. However, this time, Eleanor's stance was unexpectedly firm. "Evelyn, I don’t want to cruelly separate you two, but you are not suited for each other. Alexander is not worthy of you," Eleanor explained, "From the day he entered our family, I could see it. Had your father not sworn to me that Alexander would make something of himself, I would have never agreed to your marriage. Now, three years have passed, and he's still just a delivery man. His monthly salary can't even buy a single necklace. Do you really want to spend your life with such a man?" Biting her lips until they turned white, Evelyn's eyes gradually reddened. She knew her mother was right; Alexander really wasn't much of anything. Reason told her she should have left Alexander long ago. But recalling her father's advice and how Alexander had been willing to offend the Miller family for her, Evelyn's heart softened. ‘Yes, this man is of no significant worth, but he massages my head every day when I mention I have a headache. He has no grand skills, but regardless of the weather, he picks me up from work every day, ensuring my safety before he leaves. Over these three years, this man has fulfilled his duty as a husband...’ Unknowingly, Evelyn's face was covered in tears. "Evelyn, you haven’t... fallen for Alexander, have you?" Seeing her daughter like this, Eleanor was incredulous. Was this the proud daughter she knew? Without speaking, Evelyn sobbed uncontrollably, unsure of what to do. Seeing Evelyn with her makeup smeared by tears, Eleanor was in turmoil. That was an outcome she had never expected. Initially, she had been vehemently opposed to Evelyn's marriage to Alexander but had been unable to argue against Cedric, ultimately consenting to the marriage. Over the years, Eleanor frequently criticized Cedric for interfering with his daughter's marital freedom, never imagining Evelyn would genuinely develop feelings for Alexander. Now, Eleanor found herself the one infringing on her daughter's marital freedom. Evelyn continued, "Evelyn, I know Alexander treats you well. But you must understand, spending a lifetime together requires considering many factors; it's not just about whether the other person treats you well. You could find a man who is both good to you and wealthy..." "Mom, stop it. I believe in Alexander." Before Eleanor could persuade her further, Evelyn cut her off. At this moment, Evelyn solidified her decision; she saw endless possibilities with this man. "Evelyn, you will regret this..." Eleanor sighed, knowing further words were futile by the look on Evelyn's face. ‘Regret? No, never! I will never let you regret this!’ Outside, Alexander clenched his fist. "I believe in Alexander." Those four words were what Alexander had been waiting to hear for three years, and they finally came from Evelyn. ‘Evelyn, thank you. From this moment, even if the world makes you regret, I, Alexander Wealthington, will never let you regret!’ With that, Alexander turned and walked away with determination. From now on, he had one more mission—to make Evelyn Miller the happiest woman in the world. He vowed to show Eleanor that he could indeed bring happiness to the woman he loved. *** "Sir, do you have a moment?" Alexander had just left the hospital when he received a call from Winston Carl. "What is it?" Alexander frowned; he had already instructed Winston not to disturb him unless it was important. He didn't want his peaceful life to be disrupted. "Sir, considering you haven't settled in Los Luminares yet, I took the liberty last night of purchasing a villa for you on Blackwood from Henry Cutler. If it's convenient for you, you could come to see it now." Winston's tone carried a hint of appeasement. After speaking to Douglas Wealthington last night, Winston knew that, illegitimate or not, Alexander was not someone he could afford to offend. Hence, he had purchased the best villa on Blackwood overnight as an apology to Alexander. A villa? Alexander instinctively wanted to decline. Even with access to billions in assets, he preferred to keep a low profile. He liked being seen as an ordinary person rather than as Los Luminares's wealthiest man. However, upon hearing it was located on Blackwood, Alexander changed his mind. Evelyn Miller had once mentioned how much she adored the environment of Blackwood, dreaming of one day buying a house there to climb the hill and watch the sunrise each morning. At that time, buying a house on Blackwood was beyond Alexander's reach—not just a house; his salary couldn't even afford a patch of grass there. With its scenic beauty, nestled between mountains and waters, houses on Blackwood ranked as the most expensive in Los Luminares, with even ordinary residences going for tens of millions of dollars, let alone high-end villas. Without the Wealthington family's backing, Alexander could never afford a house on Blackwood in his lifetime. Yet now, without his needing to lift a finger, Winston Carl had presented a purchased villa right before him. ‘Well then, I'll accept it. Consider it a gift for Evelyn.’ Alexander sighed internally, though how to present this gift to Evelyn was another matter. "Alright, I'll come over." Having thought it through, Alexander accepted the invitation. "Sir, I will arrange for a car to pick you up immediately," Winston added. "No need, I'll come by myself." Alexander insisted, preferring not to draw attention. Blackwood wasn't far from the hospital, and he desired to keep a low profile. "As you wish, sir." Winston dared not say more. *** Riding his bike along the highway, Alexander made his way to Blackwood. Known as a wealthy enclave in Los Luminares, the security at Blackwood was exceptionally tight. Even the residential areas midway up the hill were patrolled by private security, ensuring residents need not worry about safety. The security was even more stringent in the villa area at the top of the hill. If the mid-hill residences housed Los Luminares's affluent, then the summit villa residents were beyond mere wealth. Only nine villas were built at the summit, each housing a prominent figure in Los Luminares. Mayor Jonatan Smith, wealthiest man Henry Cutler and so on... This was where the city's elite converged. It's clear the cost of securing a villa here was astronomical, requiring not just money but significant connections. Winston had these connections. As the chief steward for the world's premier Wealthington family, Winston only showed his humble side in front of Douglas and Alexander Wealthington. Outside, his status rivaled, if not surpassed, many top dignitaries, backed by the formidable Wealthington family, before whom even presidents would bow. "Hey, you, stop right there!" Alexander had barely reached the entrance of the villa area when a voice halted him. A group of security guards in black uniforms surrounded him.
