Chapter Fourteen
Iris wasn’t sure what she was looking at. She felt something pressing into her face, and it took another second for her to realize she was in the car, and it was the airbag. She couldn’t breathe as she pressed at the bulky fabric, trying to get it away from her and give her the space she needed to wiggle out.
She leaned back, looking to the side window, seeing nothing but snow. She could hear the sounds of the car, the whirring of the engine, and Charlotte cried out behind her.
“Grandma, Grandma, wake up!”
She heard the panic in Alison’s voice and felt the pull of the seatbelt, but for a moment, she couldn’t figure out how to move. She felt her seat back being shaken.
“Grandma, wake up! Charlotte, please say something!”
