The silence between them stretched like a taut wire.
Ayla’s breaths came shallow and fast as Darian circled her. His eyes glinted with something dangerous—half curiosity, half hunger. The Blood Moon overhead painted the clearing in shades of red, making the world look like it was burning.
“You’re trembling,” he said, his voice low, taunting.
“I’m not afraid of you,” she lied.
“Good,” Darian murmured, stepping closer. “Because fear is a weakness I don’t tolerate.”
Behind her, Kael’s voice rang out, laced with rage. “Step away from her, Darian. Now.”
Ayla turned just in time to see Kael shift—bones cracking, his body morphing into the sleek form of his wolf. His fur was jet black, his eyes glowing gold. He was smaller than Darian’s wolf form, but faster, more agile.
Darian didn’t flinch. He only grinned. “You always were her little shadow.”
“You don’t own her,” Kael growled. “She’s not part of your twisted games.”
Ayla’s heart ached. These two had once been brothers in arms. Now, they were moments from tearing each other apart over her. Over a Luna who couldn’t even look herself in the mirror without flinching.
The clearing vibrated with tension.
And then Darian shifted.
It was like watching a storm being born. His wolf was massive—muscle and menace wrapped in midnight fur. The red moon made his form shimmer like he’d been painted in blood.
Ayla backed away as the two wolves clashed.
Fangs flashed. Claws scraped. Kael was quick, but Darian fought like a beast possessed. It was over in moments.
Kael lay at her feet, blood trickling from a gash on his flank. Not dead—but close.
Darian shifted back effortlessly, bare-chested and unscathed. He looked at Ayla, ignoring Kael like he was no more than a nuisance.
“You’re mine now,” he said, eyes glowing unnaturally. “Not because you chose me—but because fate demands it.”
She should have screamed. Should have run.
But something in her cracked wide open.
And instead of fear, she felt fury.
“You don’t get to decide that,” she hissed. “You might be Alpha, Darian. But I am Luna. And I will never be yours.”
For a moment, his expression faltered. Just for a breath.
Then he stepped forward, grabbed her wrist gently but firmly, and leaned in. “We’ll see.”
As he pulled her into the woods, Kael’s ragged voice whispered her name. Her soul shattered again.
But this time, Ayla made a vow.
She would destroy Darian from the inside. Even if it cost her everything.
