Chapter thirteen-Different

1155 Words
I had to be sure everyone was completely gone before I finally opened my eyes. I released a long sigh. I had just gotten here, and they were already talking about rituals. Were they that eager to get a Luna in their pack? The room completely had the scent of Damien, so this had to be his room. Even the dark-themed interior kind of gave it away. My heart sank. Would I also be staying in the same room with him so fast? We only knew each other's names, but I definitely knew more of him than he did of me. I stayed in the room until evening, then a knock came on the door. I immediately jumped back into bed before the door opened. "Good evening Luna," a young girl said, and I immediately shrieked internally at the title I was being called. I gave her a curt nod, "My name is Lisa, the Alpha sent me to check if you were awake. He would have come by himself, but he had business to attend to," she added. "Oh!" I muttered, he was obviously back to his business of destroying people's lives. I don't know how these pack members do it, how do they just blindly follow their leader with all the bad things he was doing. They even threw him a little welcome party when we came like he was the best thing that had ever happened til then. Pathetic!, I screamed internally, feeling the urge to pull out my hair. "I am awake as you can see," I added giving her a small smile, regardless of her wrong choice of leadership, she did look like a good person and she really looked quite young, maybe seventeen or eighteen. Was she working in Damien's house as a help or something. "Do you work here?" I asked trying to feed my curiosity, maybe the more things I know about this pack, the better I will be able to strategize. "Yes, I do. I have been working here for over a year, it pays really well." Lisa responded, I blinked but that would make her sixteen or so around that time, why would she need to work, wolves her age usually focused on controlling their wolf sides and training. "You should be training though, why work here?" I asked her completely invested in her story, there was no harm in knowing though, just because of I was on a mission those not know that I should not be aware of my surroundings and this might even be useful, if there was a way of me getting out of here after I succeed my plan, it would be by being vigilant. "I do not wish to training, it is not compulsory here and like I said the pay is quite good," She responded and I blinked at her response, they had a choice her, in Aunt Mary's pack, there was no choice, you had to learn how to fight whether you liked it or not and even regardless of the gender and Landon gladly agreed on that, to Landon, training might as well be a way of life. I might not even get the chance to see them again, Betty, Landon and fortunately for me Caleb. I was more than pleased to know that I would not be seeing him again. Betty must be with her mate now, enjoying the bliss of the bond properly, she would not have to kill her mate just like I would have to. How different the direction of our lives were heading. Hers to joy, mine to disaster. "I am surprised that it is not compulsory here, I had thought that Damien would be an enforcer," I truthfully commented, if there was anyone between the two Alphas that would be making combat training compulsory, it should be Damien and not the other way around. I had almost missed it but I swear Lisa froze for a moment before regarding herself back "Alpha Damien is not an enforcer, at least not in the things we can choice from. He is the best Alpha this pack had ever had" Lisa said. I almost choked upon hearing those words come out from Lisa's mouth and thankfully I didn't, I do not want her to have a strange impression of me but I had to point out the truth, which was that Lisa was completely delusional and maybe so is the rest of the pack, that would explain the small welcome ceremony we were given when got here. How can Lisa even say that Damien was the best alpha this pack they have ever had. It made no sense to me, were they idolizing the evil that he was doing? Or were they all in it together? Was the filled with evil doers that think that they are doing the right thing, but why did she freeze in the first place? Maybe her life was being threatened and she is forced to praise her alpha, that would not be too surprising to me, it was something Damien would be capable of doing but why was he doing it in the first place, was he doing it to fool me and make me think that his pack was the perfect pack and he was a good alpha. "Are you sure about that?" I asked her eyeing her suspiciously, maybe it was a joke, but I knew it wasn’t when she looked taken aback by my response to her. "Why would you ask me that Luna, of course I am sure about it. The evergreen pack is the best place to stay in. In due time, you will understand." she said adding an awkward chuckle at the end, there was certainly something wrong with her, that was obviously a lie and she should have known better that I would be able to detect her lies but unfortunately for me, I could not. It felt like a lie and at the same time, it felt like the truth. Damien must have been training his pack members well then, they were not described as one of the strongest pack in the region if he was not training them well. "The Alpha instructed me to bring food to you, since you would be too weak to go to the pack dinning room. What would you like to eat Luna?" She asked I stared at her blankly "The pack dining halls? Was that still a thing, I thought that only existed fifty years ago or so" I said, even my father's pack did not have a dining halls, it was said to be old fashioned. "We like to keep to tradition here, so it is more like a culture here. Our pack is quite different the other packs." Lisa replied with a smile. "Of course," I gave her my best fake smile. They were definitely different that is for sure.
