Innocent me... Episode 7

268 Words
Ella slowly turned around, her heart beating nervously. Across the street stood a tall man dressed in black, his face hidden beneath the shadow of a hood. He wasn’t moving. He was just watching them. A chill ran down Ella’s spine. “Do you know him?” she whispered. Jayden’s jaw tightened immediately. “No.” But Ella could tell he was lying. The man suddenly stepped forward, and without warning, Jayden grabbed Ella’s hand tightly. “We need to go. Now.” Before she could ask questions, he pulled her down the street. Rain began falling again, soaking the empty roads as they hurried through the darkness. Ella struggled to keep up, confused and terrified at the same time. “Jayden, what’s happening?” she asked breathlessly. “Just trust me.” Those words only made her more nervous. After several minutes, they finally stopped in front of an old convenience store glowing faintly beneath the rain. Jayden quickly looked behind them before letting go of her hand. Ella noticed his breathing was uneven. “You’re scared,” she said quietly. Jayden laughed bitterly. “You don’t know anything about me, Ella.” “Then tell me.” For a moment, he stayed silent, staring at the rain falling onto the street. Then he spoke in a low voice. “My older brother disappeared two years ago.” Ella’s expression softened instantly. “And before he vanished,” Jayden continued, “he kept talking about a girl named Ella Morgan.” The world around her suddenly felt still. Because Ella had never met Jayden before this week.
