Since we’re locked in like this, I should just kick the door down. If Aiden tells the others outside that we went ahead, we’ll be left behind. For goodness sake, we’re somewhere in the middle of the freaking forest, and it’s already evening as well, cold and dark! It’s even starting to rain now.
I gave Mallory the phone and flashlight and told her to stand behind me. After banging on the door a few more times, I was able to kick it down. I looked behind me where I remember Mallory was standing at, her eyes were glowing through the dark. Before, within the light of the moon, I didn’t realize it at all, but when I looked at her just now in this dark environment, it felt like some bloodthirsty eyes were gazing at me. She’s not blinking either, it made me feel kind of intimidated.
*Gulp* Never mind that, I grabbed her hand and we immediately went outside. The others were already there taking cover on the other storehouse. Aiden was still on this side, he gave us a look of dissatisfaction together with annoyance as he saw us come out of the door. His face made me annoyed, I wanted to shout and punch him for locking us up, but I didn’t want to waste my voice when we can barely hear each other through the sound of the rain, neither do I want get wet and make more inconvenience for myself. We don’t have umbrellas, the rain is pouring heavily, there’s even thunder. It was really bright and sunny earlier though, who would have thought that there would be a raging storm at night?
Ding!
Wait for us there.
Gabriel texted me. Then I saw from their side, they were unfolding something that looked like a flag pole until it opened up into a large umbrella. That yellow and green color, ain’t that the one they use for stalls, good thing they found one there.
We went under the umbrella, Raphael was holding the huge thing by himself so I volunteered that we can hold it together, I tapped to Gabriel who was happily chatting with Elaine, but he looked back at me with such annoyance that I couldn’t say what I had to say, or more like, I forgot it. A few moments later, while walking through the woods did I only realize what important thing it was that I had forgotten to tell Gabriel. It was Mallory. I wasn’t looking behind us at all, I remembered that Aiden and Mallory was behind us. I looked behind once and noticed that Aiden was also looking back, but Mallory was not there. I immediately halted. Raphael was forced to stop as well because of me.
“Geh” Gabriel reacted as soon as we stopped, he didn’t stop walking and got a bit wet.
“What’s the problem?” Elaine asked me while I was looking around for Mallory.
“She’s not here.” I said. Mallory is usually quiet and the rain was pouring loudly so it is hard to notice anything happening.
“Huh?” Elaine was shocked, “Mallory!” Raphael and Gab exclaimed at the same time. We were all surprised except for Aiden. I looked at him with a grimace, it’s him. It must be him. I punched him out of spite.
“What the f*ck!?” He reacted.
“What did you do? Don't act like you don’t know anything!” I yelled at his face. When Raphael saw me about to grab Aiden, he immediately pulled me away. With no one to hold the umbrella, it dropped and we all got wet in the rain.
He glared and punched me back first before answering, “She fell over on her own, why is it my fault!?”
“Tch!” this is so infuriating, I should have kept watch of her. I went back and searched for her forgetting about the inconvenience of getting myself wet in the rain.
We can’t even call her out because she wouldn’t hear us, what a huge hindrance. Whilst searching, a loud thunder stroke down a tree making it blaze in fire, just a few meters from where I was. I headed towards its direction by instinct and saw Mallory sitting on the ground beside the burning tree. Did she get hit by that lightning too? Ah! She had my phone with her! I ran to her right away.
Amidst the water flowing through her body, I saw marks on it, something shiny and as if halved in several curves, scales? I made her face to me and again, I somehow see scales under her eyes. I touched it and it didn’t feel like a human body at all, her arms looked like it was shedding skin, when she looked at me it was as if her eyes were about to eat me, but I didn’t care. I thought I was only seeing things, perhaps my fever returned, so I tried to ignore it. She has a bleeding wound on her forehead, and there’s this thing, it’s as if something was growing out of her head. I reached out for it, and when I touched it she suddenly lost consciousness. I looked around and saw Aiden looking at us with his eyes widened. Did he follow me?
I immediately carried Mallory and searched for the others. While searching I started to feel a bit dizzy. Ugh... my stupid fever is back. I feel like I’m about to pass out, but I can’t, not until I find the others. I can’t just leave myself and Mallory to Aiden. He’ll surely just leave us here.
“Ha... Ha...” It’s getting harder for me to breathe with every minute. Mallory is looking reddish again... my sight is fading, ugh... I can’t take it anymore....
