Chapter 1.
"Okay! Let’s wraps it up, good job everyone, see you on the next set." The movie director clapped, waving everyone in the crew off.
Jasmine bounced in her spot, she was feeling quite delighted to have been chosen as part of the crew.
It has always been her dream to be movie star, this wasn't quite what she wanted because she was not chosen as the main lead, but still, it's something, even if all she got was a maid role.
"I knew I could do it." The snobby girl on set boasted, she has always been full of herself. Jasmine didn't like her because of that.
"I can't wait to tell my parents I got a role." Jasmine responded excitedly making the snobby girl look at her with indifference.
Snobby scoffed, "And tell them what? You're the maid?" She bellowed and everyone there followed suit.
Jasmine didn't let herself be bothered though, she changed into her own clothings, ready to go home to share the news with her family. She knew her Dad, Mike and Mom, Evelyn would be proud of her.
As Jasmine stepped out of the studio, she felt a sense of pride wash over her. She may have been just a maid in the movie, but she had achieved something she had always dreamt of. As she walked towards the entrance, she heard someone call out her name.
"Hey, Jasmine!" It was the director. He had a serious expression on his face, and Jasmine's heart jumped to her throat. Had she done something wrong?
"Listen, I know you were just a maid in this movie, but I have a proposition for you. We're filming a new movie, and I think you'd be perfect for the lead role."
Jasmine couldn't believe her ears. The lead role? Her dream was finally coming true. She had tears in her eyes as the director explained the role to her. It was a romantic movie, and she would be playing opposite the most handsome actor in Hollywood.
Overwhelmed with joy, Jasmine hugged the director tightly, thanking him.
As Jasmine walked out of the movie set, she felt a sudden rush of excitement inside her. She couldn't believe that she was finally living her dream of being in a movie. The sun was slowly setting behind her, casting a warm glow over the city streets. She took a deep breath and began walking towards the bus stop.
But as she walked, she felt a strange sense of unease. Something didn't feel right. She turned around to see if she was being followed, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. She shrugged it off and continued walking.
Suddenly, she heard a rustling in the alleyway next to her. She stopped in her tracks and peered down the dark alley. She couldn't see anything, but the rustling continued. Her heart raced as she heard footsteps approaching her from behind.
Without warning, a hand clamped over her mouth and dragged her into the alleyway. She struggled to free herself, but whoever had grabbed her was strong. So, she kicked him in the leg and ran as best as she could.
She walked into her house with her heart thumping loudly, almost as if it was about to jump out of her chest.
"You guys, you, you..." She repeated, holding her chest, trying to catch her breath.
In all honesty, she wasn't bothered by the little incident that just happened, she just wanted to share her great news.
After being a bit comported, "You guys won't believe what happened to me." She started excitedly, not really looking into anyone's faces.
"What happened?" Ethan, her younger brother asked, curiosity written all over his face.
"I got a role, it's not as huge, but it's a stepping stone and there's reassurance that I'll get an even bigger one later on." She screamed lowly and did a little dance.
But, as soon as she noticed the atmosphere in the room, she quietened down. "What happened?" She questioned, looking from her father's gloomy face to her mother's mixed one. It wasn't happy, it wasn't sad and Ethan's was as emotionless as always.
"Jasmine?" Her father called to get her attention, not that she wasn't present in the room before.
"Uh uh." Evelyn broke Mike's words, walking close to pull Jasmine into her for a hug.
"What's happening Mum? Dad?" Jasmine let herself be pulled, but the look of curiosity still remained on her face.
"Why don't you share your own news first, I have a feeling it's a great one." Evelyn diverted her attention and she boomed into a while smile.
"Oh yes! Dad? Mum? Ethan? Guess who made the role?!" She jumped up and down like an excited three years old who got told Christmas came early.
"Oh my! That's wonderful news! I am so happy for you sweetheart." Evelyn hugged her daughter again, while Mike's expression shifted from extremely sad, to slightly sorrowful.
"Thank you Mum." Jasmine replied, the looked to hed father, hearing nothing from him.
"Dad? What is it." And like that, what left her mind came back. "Ethan, talk to me." She urged her little brother to spill, but he only shook his head.
"You'll be getting married to Knoxville Cooper very soon." Mike broke his silence with a look if remorse written all over his face.
Jasmine stood still, confused, "Knoxville? You mean the rich gay guy Knoxville?" Her eyes wide.
Evelyn rubbed her daughter's back, "If he's marrying you, I don't think he is gay sweetie."
"Mom? You're in support of this?" Jasmine asked, her heart breaking already.
"There was nothing I could do, dear, I have no say in these matters, you know that." The mother defended herself, taking a step back, but not ceasing with the back rub.
Jasmine swat her mother's hand away from her back, "Dad? You can't allow this to happen. How am I going to marry someone I don't know, someone who's gay!" She exclaimed, throwing her arms into the air.
"It can't be undone now even if I wanted to to, Jasmine. What is done is done and you'll be marrying Knox." Her father finalized, standing up to leave the room.
Jasmine fell to the floor, a lone tear escaped, "What?!"
