If someone told me I'd be stuck with Jake Blackwood at a midnight club, I would have laughed my head off. But here I was facing the cruel reality of encountering him.
He wanted me to strip to clear half of my debt. I won't, it is not that I have any source to get that outrageous money to pay him. But stripping my dignity for him to watch is something I won't let him enjoy.
“You are taking a lot more time than you should. The stage is behind you. Maybe if you impress me well enough I might free you from the debt entirely." I snorted at his words. There was no way in hell I was going to believe his words.
The devil never speaks the truth. Him free me? That's the most classic joke I have ever heard.
I grabbed my purse from his hand and shifted to the light so he could see my face clearly.
“In your dreams Blackwood. You won't get what you are looking for from me. Tell someone else to entertain you. Good night." Shock flashed through his eyes and it was my turn to be amused. With that said, I brushed myself through the crowd and left the club.
Justina would have to find her way back home on her own. I flagged a cab down and gave the address to my parents home.
There was no way I'd sleep in my apartment alone. Not after pulling that sassy stunt in front of Blackwood. He definitely won't hesitate to climb in through my window and suffocate me to death with a pillow.
However, going to my parents house at this late hour was not advisable either. But it's preferably better than being alone at my apartment.
The driver stopped in front of my parents gate. But I didn't go in immediately. I checked if their lights were on before I began to input the passcode to let myself in.
Dim lights parted the driveway like an enchanted forest with fire flies. Once upon a time, I loved being here and cherished the flowers my mom grew with her hands—Not anymore.
I slipped into the house, lucky for me my Dad wasn't in his study. I tip-toed up to my room, thankfully, it wasn't locked and closed in for the night.
The next morning, my mom's cat jumped into my bed, marking its territory on my face with its tail.
“Hey, pretty," I mumbled, my voice still slurpy from sleep. “I missed you so much." It leaned it as I rubbed its fur.
“Lily," my Mom's voice came behind my room door. She opened it and gasped as if she had seen a ghost.
“What are you doing here?" She scolded, frowning as she came to retrieve her cat from me. “Did you sneak in at night? Does your sister know about this? Why would you show up without telling anyone?" She briskly walked over to the door stopping to glare at me as she wanted for my answer.
My chest twisted from her cold welcome. Usually, I was an outsider in my family. My parents never wanted me around only if my sister, Lydia was present.
“I missed home…” my words felt tight in my throat as if I was being forced to admit how I truly felt.
“What kind of excuse is that? Do you know how much your dad pays for your fees? And still dare to miss school. Your sister never bunks school. Can you ever be like her and stop being a headache to me and your father?” she spat out, glaring at me like I was a mistake. Well, I was my parents’ mistake. She walked out once she was done talking and that was my cue to get ready and leave.
I came down after two minute. My mom and dad were having their breakfast. They glued their eyes to their phone ignoring my presence.
“Good morning, Mom and Dad.” I greeted but their silence slashed my soul leaving no part untouched.
I strolled toward the door ready to leave when my Mom’s phone rang. Her sour mood brightened up and I didn’t need to be told her favorite daughter was the one that called.
“Hello, my precious baby. Good morning how was your night?” She beamed.
“Is that so? Alright, you know I will give you the world if you asked me to. Okay. Your dad wants to speak to you.” My mom passed him the phone and he gladly took it with a proud smile that wasn’t on his face two minutes ago.
“Hello, my baby doll. I hope no one stresses you at school. Oh, how much do you need? One million is nothing baby. In fact, Daddy is going to send you two million instead.”
I scoffed as they praised and promised my obnoxious sister. She wasn’t even at school, pretty sure she was out of the country with her friends on a cruise ship.
Mom and Dad won’t believe me if I told them that their precious daughter was outside cruising on their money instead of studying. However, they never valued my opinion like a white crayon.
Before they could end the call, I left their house disheartened. My phone dinged in my pocket and it was from Lydia. I rolled my eyes as I read her text.
“You better not snitch on me or I will make sure your life will forever be a mess.” She threatened with a knife and blood drop emoji.
“FYI, my life is already a mess. Also, if you don’t want your biology, physics and math lectures to give you an F on your project better send me a million check so that I can buy the required materials.” I texted back, lying to get some money out of her.
There was no way she was going to make me attend her classes without getting anything in return.
She responded with an angry emoji which I left on read and continued to stroll down the bus stand. An alert dropped on my phone and I smiled knowing my lie worked.
Now I could settle part of my debt the only problem I have is getting the rest of the money. Jack Blackwood is the worst person I want on my radar.
A text dropped on my messages and a chill ran down my spine. You can run from me but you can’t hide, little kitten. Nice red top by the way.
