Chapter 11 LILY POV

628 Words
Every single day has been exactly the same. Training after training. It's been four brutal days of work with the future Alpha, and the way his hands touch me sends a wicked shiver straight through my body, right down to my core.I never knew a man could look this damn good. Goodness, what is this man doing to me? Every night after training, I find myself lying in bed, driven crazy by the lingering memory of his touch. When I finally told Emma about the things I’ve been feeling, she just laughed her head off. "Oh my god, Lily, you are completely crushing on him," she teased. But she couldn't talk too much smack. Emma has been constantly talking about Jay, going on and on about how attractive he is. She is totally crushing on his Gamma. Oh god, we are a mess. After Emma finally left my room, I waited until the entire pack house was dead quiet. My stomach was growling from the long training day, so I slipped out of bed and made my way downstairs into the kitchen to find something to eat.I stepped through the doorway and froze. He was sitting right there at the island, looking through his phone while eating a bowl of cereal. He looked so goddamn hot it sent a sudden shiver straight down to my core. I wasn't sure if he could smell my reaction, but as I made my way over to the fridge, I could feel his heavy gaze locked onto me."You okay, Lily?" he asked, his deep voice slicing through the quiet room."Yes, just hungry after all the training today," I replied, letting out a nervous little laugh."Come sit," he murmured, tapping the empty barstool next to him.I grabbed an apple from the counter and walked over, sitting down a bit hesitantly. He turned his attention to me, his expression softening in a way I hadn't seen on the training field."I know I have been pushing you hard," he said, his gravelly voice low so it didn't echo in the quiet house. "But it’s only for your own good. You have come a long way in a short time. Your instincts are sharp."Hearing praise from a future Alpha made my chest warm. "I just... I don't want to be a burden to my pack if the rogues come back. I want to be able to protect Jace."Jake's eyes darkened, a flash of pure, intense possessiveness crossing his face before he masked it. He leaned slightly closer, his scent of pine and dark wood completely enveloping me."You aren't a burden, Lily. Don't ever think that," he said, his tone dead serious. "And you aren't safe alone out here at night. The pack house layout has... blind spots."I frowned, remembering what I'd overheard outside the office. "Blind spots." That was exactly what Alex had mentioned to him. Before I could ask him what he meant, Jake reached out. His large, warm thumb gently brushed a stray lock of hair away from my face, tucking it behind her ear. His skin was incredibly calloused, but his touch was unbelievably gentle. The moment his fingers brushed against the skin of my neck, that same white-hot electric spark flared between us. I gasped softly, freezing in place. Jake’s breath hitched, his eyes dropping to my lips for a long, torturous second. The tension in the kitchen turned scorching hot.He slowly pulled his hand back, clenching his fist tightly as if fighting himself."Go back to bed, Lily," he muttered, his voice dropping to a rough, strained register. "Get some sleep. We start early tomorrow."I nodded breathlessly, my heart hammering against my ribs as I practically scrambled out of the kitchen, the phantom heat of his touch burning against my skin all the way back to my bedroom.
