Alexander's POV
I walked away from the bedroom door. How could I be King over every wear-wolf in the United States, but I couldn't get a relationship to work. This was my fated mate. It should have been easy, but obstacles kept popping up left and right. Of course, this time, it was my fault. I should have told her that Avery, my last girlfriend, was stopping by to pick up some of her things. I just wanted to end that chapter of my life as quickly as possible and start fresh with Acelynn. I was pacing the downstairs of my apartment when Justin mind linked me to meet in my office. I was irritated the last thing I wanted to do was deal with any pack-related business right now. I needed to work on my relationship with Acelynn, but unfortunately, my duties rarely allowed me time off.
Justin was waiting in my office when I arrived, sitting in a chair in front of my desk. I plopped down in my chair, waiting for him to talk. "More rouges are attacking the smaller outlying packs. Just this morning, there was an attack this time though one of them was captured. I have the outline of the interrogation. The guy, if he can be trusted, said they are going to Dark Moon next. They wouldn't hurt anyone, and the mission was to get as much info on Acelynn as possible. They were supposed to leave everyone alive unless they got in the way. I've got a team of warriors headed there now to stop them, but I'm hoping they realize their plan is busted," he said before throwing the outline on my desk.
"I knew Brad would target her once he found out," I stated. "Everyone, especially those closest to me, know I've been waiting for my mate since I turned 18. Brad was my best friend. He knows me better than anyone, and he's going to use everything against me."
"Do you want us to go after him?" Justin asked.
"If we take him now with no evidence against him, it will cause a war. Not only will all the rouges rise against us, but the members of packs that are wavering will say I'm not a fair King that I use my power just for my own personal benefit. Get me something that I can use against him in a trial that will hold," I said as I turned my computer on.
I found Acelynn's father's information and placed a phone call to him. It was a brief discussion about what was happening and informing him that if his pack needed anything, not to hesitate to call. I did, however, notice that he never asked how Acelynn was before the call ended.
I looked over at Justin. "Do we have anything on Brad?" I asked.
"Well, we had heard through a source that a guy was talking about how he was somehow finding out when pack members were getting banned from their pack and picking them up right away to join his side. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to locate the guy. So we aren't sure how he is finding out when these trials and banishments are taking place," he answered.
"He will stop at nothing to take over power. So unless we find something soon or he slips up, we are definitely in for some trouble," I stated.
"I've got several teams working on it. I'm sure they will find something. By the way, congrats on finding your mate," he said.
I couldn't help but smile. "Thanks, man. I just wish we could get on the same page," I said with a sigh.
"I noticed this morning that you two seemed kind of tense," Justin said, looking at me with sympathy.
"It was all kind of sudden. Then she's thrust into the royal life, which, surprisingly, she does not want. Which is why I think she is perfect for it. Unlike other females that would do anything to have the crown just for personal gain, I think she will want to help people and won't care about the added benefits," I replied with a smile.
Acelynn did seem like the type of person that would do anything to help someone out. I knew once we got on the same page that we would work well together. Justin brought me out of my thoughts, "You two haven't mated, though," he said, but it was more of a question.
I sighed, "No, I've been trying to give her time. Unfortunately, though, we are currently not speaking. She saw me with Avery and is upset."
"Oh man, why would you bring Avery around. I have been with Mallory for a year, and I've only brought up an ex once and learned my lesson. Mallory would probably have my balls in a jar if I brought one of them into our home," he said with a laugh.
"I wasn't thinking. I just wanted her to get her stuff and cut all ties so I could start fresh with Acelynn," I replied with a shrug.
"Dude, next time, just get an address and mail it. Trust me. It's less of a hassle. Anyways Mallory is waiting for me to go out for dinner. I'll let you know if I hear anything new. Good luck with your girl," he said as he stood up to leave.
I slumped down in my chair as he walked out of the room. He was right. In my haste to start a life with Acelynn, I had made a poor decision and pushed her away. Luckily my mother wasn't here, or she would probably beat me over the head. I had hoped our day together would bring us closer, but that wasn't happening so far. My wolf, Darius, was pacing in my head. He wanted us to mate and become one with Acelynn. He was growing impatient with my progress, and with each passing day, it was becoming harder to keep him at bay.
I got up from my desk and started back towards my apartment. I could talk to Alphas and work out issues all day. I knew eventually I could get Acelynn to come around.
