Acelynn's POV
As we drove into the city, I couldn't help but keep looking in the side mirror to see if anyone was following us. I was on edge, and my friend Bella could tell it. She kept glancing over at me but didn't push for me to talk. Finally, I broke the silence, "Sorry if I seem on edge. I got caught, and now I'm worried that someone might come to find me."
She laughed as she glanced over at me. "So I am helping you escape then?" she asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Well, yes, actually you are. I need to get into the city and somewhere in a crowd." I said, turning in my seat to look at her.
"I know just the place," she stated. "But you'll have to change. They'll never let you in dressed like that."
"I didn't bring anything else to change into," I said as I looked down at my clothes.
"Don't be silly. I always have extra stuff in my backseat. We are like the same size. You are just shorter, so it should work," Bella said as she urged me to climb over the backseat to change.
Once in her backseat, I looked around, and all I could find was a rather small thin black dress. I held it up as I looked at her. "There is no way I can wear this," I said, looking at her in disbelief.
"Of course you can, silly. You'll look hot, and it is your birthday. The dress will get you free drinks for sure," Bella winked at me as she said the last part. "Now change before we get there, or I'll dress you myself."
I slipped out of my clothes, leaving only my underwear on. I slipped the dress on, and while it covered the important parts, that was about it. I hoped the thin straps holding it altogether would last through the night. I looked around for shoes and found a pair of black strappy hills on the floor. Holding them up, I asked, "Can I wear these?"
She looked up in her rearview mirror, nodding as she went back to looking for a parking spot. I redid my hair, taming down and flyaways, and pulled all my hair up into a high ponytail. Luckily my makeup from my party hadn't sweated or cried off too bad. By the time she parked the car, I was ready to go and jumped out of the backseat.
We stood in front of a club called Neon Night, and you could hear the music thumping from outside. My friend squealed with excitement grabbing my hand. She pulled me to her and insisted on taking a photo together. I agreed to it only after she promised not to post them until later. One picture turned into several and then a video, but finally, I was able to satisfy her enough that we could go inside. Bella waved at the bouncer. Apparently, this was a place she frequented. He motioned for us to come to him and let us in the door while the line of angry people behind us yelled.
Once through the door, I could see where the club got its name. Everything was lit up with neon lights, including each wall with at least one neon sign hanging from it. Bella and I took the last two seats at the bar, and I looked around as she ordered drinks. A guy at the end of the bar caught my eye. He winked at me, and I smiled back. My wolf was howling at me to stop. That we had a mate and we needed to return to him. I pushed her to the back of my head then it dawned on me maybe if I were damaged goods, he wouldn't want me. My wolf howled again, attempting to tell me that I was playing a dangerous game, but I pushed her back again. I felt him tap me on the shoulder, and I turned my stool around to face him. My friend stood behind him, nodding at me with a big smile giving me a thumbs up. As we talked, I learned that his name was Brian, and he was in town for business. My glass never seemed to run empty, and pretty soon, he was pulling a very tipsy me onto the dance floor.
Our bodies were close, grinding together to the music. People surrounded us, and I even spotted my friend dancing with a very attractive male. Brian turned me around so that my back was against his chest. He was grinding his hips against my butt, and I could feel his hardness rubbing against me. I didn't stop him, though. If anything, I encouraged him by resting my head back against his chest, revealing my neck as I wrapped my arms back around his neck, pulling him down to me. He placed kisses down my neck until he found a spot he liked and started sucking and nipping at it. I was lost in the music and our movements when my partner suddenly was jerked away from me, causing me almost to fall. I spun around in time to see the King's fist make contact with the side of Brians face. Brian fell to the ground but surprisingly went to get back up. The King must not have punched him as hard as he could have. I watched, though, as he jumped on Brian, preparing to punch him again. I let out a low growl as I caught his arm, "Stop it, you'll kill him!" I yelled at him.
The King's eyes went from black back to their dark blue as he looked up at me. "Come with me now, and I will let him go," He stated eerily calm.
I looked down at Brian, who was fighting to get up but could not move. I couldn't let someone innocent get hurt because of me. I sighed, defeated as I walked past them both on the floor towards the door. The King took this as my answer and followed behind me while several of his guards also followed him out. When we reached his SUV, he spun me around, pushing my back up against it. "What do you think you were doing? Did you think you could hide from me? How could you go out looking like this knowing you have a mate?" he asked, sneering down at me.
"One, I was trying to enjoy my birthday that you ruined. Two no, I didn't think I could hide forever, but I thought you might get the hint that I don't want to be with you. Three I can wear whatever I want to wear. It is my body," I snarled back at him.
His face looked hurt for a moment before snapping back into his usual calm and composed expression. "Little dot, you might not want me now, but one day you will be begging for me. Now get into the car," he said as he pulled me aside and opened the door.
I looked up at him, glaring he was delusional if he ever thought I would beg for anyone, especially him. "I need my bag from my friend's car," I stated, standing my ground.
He sighed, sounding exasperated. He looked back to his guards and barked at one of them to get it. "Now, please get in the car. I would rather not have more people see you like this," he grumbled at me.
I rolled my eyes at him but climbed into the back of the SUV, sliding across the seat to the other door getting as close as I could get to it. He climbed in behind me and handed me my bag. I dug through it, finding my earbuds placing them in while my phone turned back on. Hopefully, he would get the hint that I didn't want to talk to him. The first song on was Billie Eilish "Your Power" and while I knew what the song was about, some of the lyrics seemed very fitting to my current situation. I leaned my head against the window, and one tear escaped down my cheek before I wiped it away, hoping he didn't see it.
