The smell of sizzling butter and something sweet drifted through the crack beneath the guestroom door. Then the voices followed. It was Genevieve’s laughter and Adrian’s deeper tone. They were murmuring something I couldn’t catch. Then came the unmistakable sound of dishes clinking and the hum of low music playing in the background. My stomach turned.
