She was about to change into a fresh set of clothes when the melodious chime of a bell rang through her room. Startled, she froze, her fingers hovering over the buttons of her blouse. Her room had been a haven of solitude, and the intrusion of an unexpected sound sent a jolt of surprise through her. She looked around the room, and there she had seen where the sound came from. She quickly abandoned her intention to change and made her way to the window, gazing out at the forest as if seeking answers in the dappled sunlight and rustling leaves. The academy's bells had a purpose, but such purpose she wasn't and had no idea what it was all about. Nadia's curiosity piqued, she left her room and joined a stream of fellow students who were also responding to the call of the bell. In the corridors, murmurs of confusion filled the air, and a sense of anticipation hung heavy. No one seemed to know the reason for this unexpected summons. "It's almost 1 in the afternoon, we have classes-" "Shut up, Mira, this is a great way to not attend classes." A woman beside Nadia laughed. As Nadia descended the grand staircase of the academy, her thoughts raced. What could have prompted this gathering? Was it an announcement, a special event, or something entirely unforeseen? The air was charged with uncertainty, and she couldn't help but wonder if it was somehow connected to her and the incident that had happened while he was crossing the streets, knowing that the man behind the car was indeed, in the same academy that he was in. And worst, he had seen her face, but she did not. Someone spoke on the speaker and told the students to gather in their gymnasium, and she had no idea where it was, she just let herself be carried away by them and followed the students. In the gymnasium, the students began to assemble, forming a sea of curious faces, each one reflecting the same mixture of bewilderment and intrigue. The academy's officers in charge, and other old men and women she had not seen earlier stood at the center of the gathering. Nadia's heart raced in her chest as she joined the crowd of students, her eyes darting around in search of a familiar face among the sea of strangers. She couldn't help but wonder if the person who had nearly collided with her on the street was among them. Every face she scanned, every gaze she met, held the potential to be that of the mysterious man. She kept looking around the place, to look for someone who was also looking in her direction, but it seemed like the students were too fixated on the people who were in front of them. Nadia could sense their authority and the powerful aura that surrounded them. As the last echoes of the bell faded into the distance, an older man with gray hair stepped forward, and a hushed silence fell over the place. "Hey, what's happening here?" Just as her thoughts swirled with anticipation, a woman in striking attire—a black tube top and a short skirt—approached Nadia. Her sudden appearance startled her, and she cleared her throat nervously, still trying to grasp the significance of the moment. "I don't know," Nadia admitted in response to the woman's question, her voice tinged with uncertainty as she continued to steal glances at the gray-haired man who stood at the forefront. The woman raised an amused eyebrow. "Oh, a new student?" Her tone was playful, and she wore a mischievous grin. Nadia nodded in confirmation. "Yes." "Name?" the woman pressed, her deep blue eyes twinkling with curiosity. Nadia hesitated for a moment, caught off guard by the directness of the stranger's inquiry. "What do you mean?" she asked, her own curiosity piqued. The woman's grin widened. "I was asking for your name, i***t," she teased, shaking her head affectionately. With a sheepish smile, Nadia introduced herself. "Oh, I'm Nadia." The woman extended a hand with a warm smile. "I'm Nesy." As their hands met, Nadia couldn't help but feel that this chance encounter with Nesy might hold unexpected significance in the days to come. The hushed silence that had descended upon the place was broken by the resonant voice of the gray-haired man who stood at the forefront of the gathering. His presence exuded authority, and the students instinctively leaned forward, eager to hear his words. "Welcome, students," he began, his voice carrying a sense of gravitas that immediately commanded attention. "To both new faces and familiar ones, I extend the warmest greetings on behalf of the academy. To those of you who have not known me, I am the principal, the president of this academy." Nadia listened intently, her eyes fixed on the man as he continued. She was acutely aware of the significance of this moment, the unveiling of a new chapter in her journey within the academy. Despite being surprised at the sudden introduction of the man, she made sure to never let a single emotion show on her face that would catch anyone's attention. "We gather here not only to mark the beginning of a new academic year but also to celebrate the spirit of inquiry and knowledge that binds us all," the man continued, his eyes scanning the sea of faces before him. "In the hallowed halls of this institution, you will embark on a journey of self-discovery, of exploration, and of growth." Nadia felt a sense of resonance with his words. It was precisely the pursuit of knowledge and understanding that had drawn her to the academy, but she knew that there was more than that, she was brought to the place for a purpose, something that she couldn't run away from. "We are privileged to have new students among us," the man declared, his gaze settling briefly on students who had recently joined the academy's ranks. "Each of you brings a unique perspective, a fresh spark of curiosity, and the potential to leave your mark on the tapestry of our shared knowledge." As he spoke, Nadia couldn't help but glance at Nesy, the woman she had just met who was murmuring something as the woman boredly looked at the president of the academy. The gray-haired man's words continued to resonate, weaving a sense of belonging and purpose into the hearts of the students. He spoke of the academy's rich history, its commitment to the pursuit of wisdom, and the responsibilities that came with being a part of this esteemed institution. "In the days and months ahead," he concluded, his voice tinged with a note of inspiration, "may you embrace the challenges, savor the discoveries, and forge bonds that will last a lifetime. Welcome to the academy, where the pursuit of knowledge is both a privilege and a duty." "Welcome to the academy, where the pursuit of knowledge is both a privilege and a duty. Blah blah blah." Nesy murmured again. Nadia looked at the woman's direction. "What? It's the same welcoming address." Nesy shrugged her shoulders. "Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed students," the president spoke again, his voice resonant and filled with pride. "I am honored to stand before you today to not only welcome our new and returning students but also to introduce a distinguished group of educators who will guide you on your academic journey." Nadia watched with keen interest as the president motioned to a group of professors who had gathered at his side. She assumed that they were students because they looked too young for the profession but she was wronged. She heard some giggles of the students, and most of the women's eyes were fixated in front as if they were waiting for a specific someone to emerge in front of them. "Allow me to introduce our esteemed faculty," the president announced. He began to list the professors one by one, their names accompanied by a brief description of their areas of expertise and accomplishments. As the president continued, Nadia couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. "Is he here?" She heard the whispers of students behind her. "Yeah, someone told me that he was indeed, here in the academy." Her curiosity was piqued upon listening as to who they might be referring to. One by one, the professors stepped forward, acknowledging the students with nods and warm smiles. Nadia observed them closely. Apart from the main reason why she was enrolled in the academy is to also know who the people behind it are. However, as the president concluded his introductions and began to step away from the podium, a bold voice cut through the quiet. A student near the front of the assembly raised their hand, and all eyes turned toward them. "Excuse me, Mr. President," the student said, their voice carrying a mix of curiosity and confidence. "Is it true that Mr. Zeustin Mindaro will be joining the academy as a professor?" The mention of Zeustin's name rippled through the crowd. The president paused, his gaze shifting to the student who had asked the question. Zeustin's possible appointment was clearly a topic of interest among the students. "Ah, Zeustin," the president replied, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Indeed, there have been discussions about his potential role within our institution. And yes, he is joining us." After the confirmation, murmurs of excitement and speculation spread through the assembly as the students exchanged glances. With that, the president left the podium, and the place buzzed with whispered conversations and excited chatter. The prospect of Zeustin becoming a professor at the academy added an extra layer of intrigue to the already dynamic environment of learning and discovery.
