Episode 10:The Breaking Point

382 Words
Ethan sat alone in his dorm room, the soft glow of his desk lamp illuminating the clutter of textbooks and notes in front of him. He had spent hours catching up on assignments, but his mind kept drifting back to the conversation with Sophia. Her words haunted him—I’m just a distraction now? He closed his eyes, trying to push the guilt away. But it lingered, a weight that wouldn’t lift. As the days passed, their interactions became strained. Sophia no longer sought him out, and Ethan found himself missing her presence more than he cared to admit. He had thrown himself into his studies, hoping that the distraction would keep him from facing the truth: he was losing something important. One evening, as he left a lecture hall, he spotted Sophia across the courtyard, laughing with her friends. The sound of her laughter—once so familiar, so comforting—now felt distant. Without thinking, he approached her. “Sophia, can we talk?” Sophia turned, surprise flickering in her eyes. “Talk? About what?” “About us,” Ethan said, his voice low. “I’ve been... I’ve been pushing you away, and I don’t want to do that.” She studied him for a long moment before sighing. “Ethan, I get it. You’re under a lot of pressure. But you can’t just shut everything out because you’re scared of what might happen if you take a step back. You have to find a balance.” “I know,” he admitted, his heart heavy. “I’ve lost sight of that, and I don’t know how to fix it.” Sophia looked away, her expression softening. “Maybe you need to decide what’s really important to you,” she said, her voice tinged with sadness. “I don’t want to lose you,” Ethan whispered, his chest tightening. Sophia met his gaze, her eyes filled with uncertainty. “You won’t lose me, Ethan. But you have to figure things out before it’s too late.” With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Ethan standing alone in the fading sunlight. The weight of her words lingered, but for the first time in weeks, he felt a flicker of hope—maybe he could find his balance after all.
