Chapter Thirty-two Double Bridle“Oh, hi.” Hana frowned as she pulled the front door open. Her visitor stepped over the threshold and kicked off his shiny shoes. “Pastor Sam!” Phoenix stood in the hallway, still undressed. She paused in horror, tugging her vest low enough to cover her knickers, but exposing her neckline beyond decency. Hana turned and blocked Sam’s view as he bent to straighten his shoes on the mat. She raised her eyebrows at her daughter. “Just wear a dress, Phoe,” she instructed. “Any dress. I don’t think God has any particular preference today.” She added urgency with a jab of her finger towards the bedroom end of the house. The debate, which had begun before breakfast, ended without the same fanfare. Phoenix fled, no longer caring about her favourite blue dress still
