CHAPTER EIGHT The triumphant outcome of her plotting sent Mrs. Winston into a fever of activity. Dressmakers, hat-makers and shoemakers were immediately summoned to the house. She was determined that her stepdaughter should have the finest trousseau possible and had no qualms at all in spending Madelina’s own money for the purpose. Madelina baulked at a fancy Reception and in the end Mrs. Winston agreed that the Wedding guests would return to the house for the Wedding breakfast.
