CHAPTER FIVEIt might have been an hour that passed or two or three. Or it might have been no more than five minutes. Madelina was in another world, where time did not exist. She heard the music finish in the adjoining room, but de Burge did not release her. They continued to circle in silence, nothing but the faint sound of their feet on the tiled floor to remind them that they were still on earth. Her eyelids trembled and lowered with ecstasy, her eyelashes fluttered on her cheeks. She hardly dared to breathe for fear of breaking the spell. Her heart throbbed with joy, her body ached with a desire that she could not name. She only knew that if she could melt into his being, she would. She wanted to dance forever and she wanted to be held fast in his embrace for the rest of her life.
