What in the FRESH Hell?

752 Words
DeAnne I awoke in the chambers Serenity had assigned me to earlier. The room was quiet, but I could tell that I wasn't alone. Serenity lay curled against my feet and legs like she used to do when she was a child. I ran my hand through her hair, as consciousness slowly returned to me. What exactly had happened this evening? My brows furrowed, I could hear voices outside the bedchamber in the sitting area. Male voices that I didn't recognize. The door inched open, and my son Adam peaked inside. I gasped, raising my arms to him as I felt tears quicken in the back of my eyes and throat. Adam smiled and began to make his way towards the bed. Serenity stirred, sitting up and smiling at her brother as he approached. "Mom, are you alright?" Adam asked, wrapping me in his strong arms. I relished holding his solid weight against mine. I didn't immediately concern myself about why he was here. Or with what had happened to the very large wolf that had tried to attack us. "ReeNee, your eyes were glowing... and your teeth." I stuttered, my body beginning to shake. I pushed Adam away from me. They were both too calm. I could feel my temper rising... "One of you better start telling me exactly what the hell is going on here right now," I said, pushing my legs onto the floor. "If you can't explain, we're leaving here right now." I threatened, standing unsteadily on my feet. "Mom," Serenity whined, rolling her eyes at Adam. "Don't you 'Mom' me!" I yelled. "What exactly have you gotten yourself into? I'm calling your father," I said pointedly. Heading towards my purse. I heard a deep growl from the sitting room. But the door was closed, was that wolf out there? "Is that 'thing' out there?" I hissed quietly. My eyes swelling while looking between my children for confirmation. "Mom," Adam this time said with a sigh of resignation. "You need to calm down and let us explain." "Explain what exactly? Why there is a large wolf chasing me? Or why you let it in my room? Or why exactly neither of you seem to be as unnerved as I am about the situation?" I rattled off rapid-fire questions at both of them. Another growl resonated through the wall. As if it could hear us, as if it was listening. "Okay. Okay," Serenity said to no one in particular. "Mom, you need to sit down so we can explain." I paced around them... eyeing them both. These were my children, but they were clearly keeping a secret from me. A secret that I could already tell, I wouldn't like. Her next words made me laugh out loud. "Mom. I'm a werewolf" she said seriously. I guffawed loudly. Choking at my mirth. This was the mother of all pranks. They had really outdone themselves. *Wait. Listen to them. These are your children. They are serious.*My inner voice chimed in uninvited as usual. Wiping my eyes and patting my chest, I couldn't help but chuckle at the wry grin Adam was giving his sister. As if to say, 'told you so'. She rolled her eyes dramatically, then continued. "Mom, she's serious," Adam interjected. "It's why Draven & Kalix's dad chased you." He finished seriously, as if that sentence made ANY sense at all. "Their. Their dad," I repeated. "They were raised by a wolf?" I asked incredulously. The door burst open as Draven strolled in, his eyes all for Serenity. He chuckled, "I guess you could say that." He walked straight to her, enclosing her in his arms and placed his nose in her hair inhaling deeply. As if the smell of her shampoo settled him, he turned his focus to me. His eyes glowing unnaturally bright. "DeAnne. This is my werewolf pack. Serenity is my mate and Luna. And my dad thinks you are his second chance mate." The lack of levity in his declarations gave me pause. My mouth hung open, though my mind was racing a mile millisecond. "Wait, pack as in like... the supernatural novels people read? Like an actual wolf. Werewolf pack?" I questioned exasperatedly. "Yes," the door opened further, revealing my son Blake drifting in with an unfamiliar mans hand on his shoulder. No, it was the man from dinner. The wolf man? For the second time in less than an hour. I was caught by my daughter before I could crash to the floor.
