Chapter 7 Being Beaten

725 Words
The car tore through the night and halted at a secluded entrance. Jensen hauled her into a rowdy underground fight club, thick with the stench of sweat and blood. Harsh lights blazed over the cage ring, surrounded by a raucous, savage crowd. Two brawny men brawled inside the cage. One fighter was slammed to the ground, blood bursting from his nose and mouth. He curled up twitching, unable to stand. Susan's stomach roiled, and she shook uncontrollably. "Jensen, I don't want to be here. Take me home!" Jensen shook her off, his gaze glacial. "Scared now? You weren't scared to hit Amber and Ethan." He gripped her chin, forcing her to watch the ring. "Not only will you stay and watch, but you're going in there. You can't leave until you win." Susan recoiled, but two men dragged her into the cage and shoved a pair of gloves onto her hands. "Jensen, listen! I didn't mean to hit him!" "So you meant to hit Amber?" Jensen's face was like stone. He signaled the fighter. A straight punch smashed into Susan's face. Pain exploded in her nose, blood gushing down her lips. Her vision went dark, ears ringing endlessly. Clutching her bleeding nose, she screamed, "She boiled my miscarried baby into soup! I'll kill her for this!" "Shut your lying mouth!" Jensen roared, veins bulging at his temples. "I watched the doctor dispose of that embryo myself! Susan, you're hopeless! Tyler, hit her again!" A crushing hook slammed into Susan's jaw. Crack! A sickening snap sliced through the air. Susan reeled backward, crashing hard onto the mat. She twisted her head and spat a mouthful of blood, three teeth clattering to the ground. Agony flooded every inch of her body. Involuntary tears mixed with blood, streaking her swollen, bruised face. Summoning every last shred of strength, she propped herself up and rasped at the man outside the ring, "Jensen! A man who wrongs his wife shall never prosper! You—you will regret this!" "Still defiant?" Fury flared in Jensen's eyes. "Tyler, keep going! Don't stop!" Another heavy fist crashed brutally into her abdomen. "Argh…" White-hot pain exploded from her womb, and the metallic tang of blood flooded her throat. Like a broken doll, she went limp in a pool of blood, curling into a fetal ball. Jensen stared, a flicker of remorse ghosting across his face. He stepped closer and crouched by the cage. "Will you admit your fault now?" Susan forced her eyes open, her vision blurred by a crimson haze. She fixed him with a bitter, broken smile. "I've done nothing wrong…" Her voice was thin and ragged. "But I do regret it, Jensen. I truly do… Eight years of devotion—even a dog would've wagged its tail for that. Only you. Only the son I raised with my own two hands… you have ground my heart into the dirt." Her guttural croak cut through the rowdy cheers, drilling into Jensen's eardrums. He froze. The Susan in his memory had always been gentle and meek, never raising her voice. He had never seen her so shattered, so utterly destroyed. His hand trembled as he reached toward the steel cage, desperate to touch her unrecognizable, swollen face. Just then, his phone blared. Ethan's tearful shriek burst from the speaker, "Dad, hurry back! Amber fell—there's blood everywhere!" Jensen's face twisted. He shot to his feet, the faint remorse vanishing in an instant, replaced by blind panic. He muttered a hasty order to the gym owner and bolted out without a backward glance. Susan watched his retreating back, gritting her teeth as she dragged herself forward with her last strength. But the gym owner blocked her path, flanked by burly thugs, his voice cold as ice. "Someone paid us to give you a proper 'welcome.'" He waved a hand. "Teach her a lesson she'll never forget!" The men closed in. Fists rained down on her head, her stomach—every blow was unbearable. At first, she could pinpoint each stab of pain. Soon, she couldn't tell where the hits landed. The world spun violently. She heard the crowd's frenzied shouts, the sharp c***k of her own bones breaking. Her vision blurred to searing red—thick, warm, her own blood. Like a broken ragdoll, she convulsed once, twice, then sank into total darkness.
