CHAPTER 31 PARKER RETURNS TO his quarters and is relieved to see that Gruner has brought order to his chaos. The mass of paper once littering the floor is now tucked away in the file cabinet, the stack of documents related to General Miller, the collection of papers from the Peterson safe, the report on the assassination attempt, the dossier on Robert Sullivan, and the assorted collection of his notes, are all in the cabinet. One bundle remains. The packet of information dropped off by Dennis Wade, which became the man’s death sentence. Parker settles into the chair and sorts through the papers. The late evening and sumptuous dinner weigh heavily on his eyelids, and he struggles to stay awake. A knock on the door startles him. Staff Sergeant Paul Gruner stands there. “What’s going on?”
