I can do nothing but watch as my father grabs my travel box where I’ve hurriedly packed my essentials and drags it away from the door.
Mom is standing by the window, looking better than I expected, considering the dark cloud hanging over our household.
Ethan is clinging to my legs.
“Let her go, Raymond,” Mom says quietly even though she’s not looking at me.
“No!” Dad barks, “Never. I will not allow it.”
He whirls around and stalks to me, stabbing a finger in my face, “How could you even think of abandoning your family at a time like this? You should be ashamed. Your brother is in police custody for goodness sake!”
“And I’m sorry about that,” my voice wobbles as I reign in my emotions, “I really am. But this is important.”
