My fingers feel stiff as I unfurl my umbrella in preparation to step outside. It’s some minutes past six and the sky has darkened considerably, accelerated by the gloom from the pouring rain. My countenance is even darker. I should have been home an hour and a half ago. “Still around, Miss Griffin?” Delicious musky cologne hits my senses the same time as his silky baritone. He’s beside me in less than a second, his broad shoulders swallowing up the space in their characteristic manner. I look up to see him watching me impassively. His once immaculately tamed hair is now unruly after a whole day of work. “I had to catch up on some work,” I mutter, pretending his presence isn’t adding to the already existing goosebumps on my skin. “And you?
