The forest was eerily quiet as Sienna and Lucian moved deeper into the trees. The crunch of leaves underfoot seemed deafening against the oppressive silence.
Lucian tightened his grip on her hand, pulling her closer. “Stay with me. No matter what.”
Sienna nodded, though fear gnawed at her belly. Every shadow seemed alive, every whisper of wind a threat.
They found shelter in an abandoned cabin nestled near the riverbank. It was small, the roof sagging in places, but it was hidden — and for now, that was all that mattered.
Lucian lit a fire, the flickering flames casting long shadows on the wooden walls. He pulled Sienna into his arms, cradling her as if she might vanish.
“We’ll figure this out,” he murmured against her hair. “I won’t lose you.”
For the first time in days, Sienna allowed herself to relax. In Lucian’s arms, she found a sliver of safety — a fragile hope.
But peace was short-lived.
A howl split the night, low and guttural — a hunting call.
Lucian stiffened instantly, his entire body going taut with alertness.
“They found us,” he said grimly.
Sienna’s blood ran cold.
Before they could move, the door to the cabin burst open.
Marcus stood there, flanked by two pack warriors. His eyes gleamed with triumph.
“Did you really think you could run, Lucian?” he sneered. “You were warned. She’s a curse.”
Lucian stepped protectively in front of Sienna. “You’re wrong. She’s not a curse. She’s the future.”
Marcus laughed, bitter and cruel. “The council has made their decision. Sienna dies tonight.”
“No!” Sienna cried, but Marcus lunged forward.
Lucian shifted in a blur of motion, his wolf surging out with a roar. His powerful form slammed into Marcus, sending him crashing against the wall.
The fight was brutal. Teeth gnashed, claws raked flesh, blood splattered across the cabin walls.
Sienna watched, frozen in terror — until Marcus pinned Lucian down, his claws poised to strike.
Without thinking, Sienna grabbed a broken piece of wood from the floor and drove it into Marcus’s side.
He howled in pain, staggering back.
Lucian seized the moment. With a savage snarl, he delivered the final blow, sending Marcus crumpling to the ground, unconscious.
Breathing heavily, Lucian turned to Sienna, blood dripping from his mouth.
“You saved me,” he rasped.
Tears blurred Sienna’s vision. “We saved each other.”
The surviving warriors, seeing their leader defeated, fled into the night.
For the first time, Sienna and Lucian stood alone — no longer hunted, no longer bound by the council’s chains.
Lucian took her hand, his gaze fierce and unyielding.
“This ends now. We fight for our future. For our love.”
And under the watchful eyes of the moon, they vowed to reclaim their destiny — together.
