Chapter 3: The Alpha's Warning
The forest loomed ahead, darker than it had any right to be at midday. Sienna hesitated at the tree line, the cool shadow of the woods stretching toward her like fingers beckoning her inside. Her instincts screamed for caution, but another part of her — deeper, older — pulled her forward.
The scent of pine and earth filled her senses as she stepped between the trees. Her boots barely made a sound on the mossy ground. Every nerve in her body was alert.
She wasn’t alone.
A growl rumbled through the stillness, low and menacing.
Sienna turned sharply. Lucian Grey emerged from the shadows, his movements fluid and predatory. His silver eyes blazed as they locked onto hers, not with hatred, but something more volatile — something dangerous.
"You shouldn’t be here," he said, his voice rough and commanding.
Sienna squared her shoulders, hiding the way her heart pounded. "This is public land. I can walk wherever I please."
He stepped closer, the air between them charged. "Duskwind isn't what it seems. You're stirring up things you don’t understand."
"I’m not afraid," she lied.
Lucian's eyes softened for a moment, as if he saw through her bravado. "You should be."
A sudden movement behind Lucian made Sienna stiffen. More figures — wolves in human form — appeared between the trees. Their presence was a clear threat. They didn't want her here. She didn’t belong.
"You need to leave," Lucian said again, softer this time. "Before it’s too late."
Sienna met his gaze, refusing to back down. "I can’t. Not until I find the truth."
For a long moment, they stared at each other, two forces neither willing to yield. Then, without a word, Lucian turned and melted into the forest, the others following his lead.
Sienna stood alone, the wind whispering through the trees, carrying with it the unmistakable sense that her life was about to change — forever.
And somewhere deep inside, she knew.
Lucian Grey wasn't just her enemy.
He was her fate.
