Chapter 7: The New Kid

1169 Words
KALISIA Even though I was hopeful, I knew that dad would do something to bring attention to me when I entered the classroom. I walked in and the door slammed uncontrollably behind me, causing everyone in the class to stare directly at me standing in the doorway. I glanced down out at my feet hoping it would cause everyone to ignore me and move on with themselves, but of course they didn't. Finally I glanced up and walked over to the only empty seat in the room. I looked up towards the front of the class where the teacher's desk was and for some reason dad wasn't even there. He was probably out looking for me, and I was more than likely going to get a scolding for it. The girl next to me looked pretty hostile like I just violated her space sitting in the empty chair next to her. She was sitting there blowing bubbles loudly with her bubble gum and rolling her long straight black hair in her fingers. “Oh hey. You're the new girl. Everyone's been talking about you.” She announced in a snarky way, loud enough for everyone in the entire class to hear. “ME?! Why?” Why would everyone be talking about me? I have literally spoken to no one and made sure to stay out of sight of anyone I came across. She rolled her eyes in response to my startled defensiveness. “Only because you were chatting with the hottest guy at school in the hallway.” How the hell would she know that when that literally just happened? Does everyone in this entire school have telepathy? Awesome. “Congratulations; you're already the most popular girl in school.” She said full of attitude and hatefulness. Like I was undeserving to be talking to said hot guy. This b***h just did NOT! Wow, if I didn't want to bring attention to myself I would go off. Who did she think she was? I needed to stop this rumor and stat. Even though he was dreamy, the last thing I wanted was to bring any attention to myself at all. At first, I dressed slutty to piss of dad, but really I just wanted to be invisible. I really screwed that up. “What about that Ashlee girl? She was talking to him, too.” Maybe that would change the subject, and her attitude towards me. “Everyone knows he’s not into Ashlee. She's just there for entertainment. She's like his little pet when he's feeling bored.” What did that mean exactly? This girl was obviously jealous, and I wasn’t going to listen to her anymore. This was ridiculous, he was not even interested in her, and I doubt he was doing anything with her. I was just trying to get the attention off of me. But if he was, I definitely needed to steer clear of him. Maybe I shouldn't have agreed to sit with him at lunch. I don't know why I'm wracking my brain over this guy, I literally knew nothing about him. I don't know why I cared so much, I didn't care about anything anymore. I was hollow, and I needed to stick with that. Devon Lochlan, you are nothing to me. I'll keep telling myself that...because I was like a cat in heat anytime I was near him. Dad finally busted through the door out of breath. Thank god for that as I couldn't take any more interrogation and snarky attitude from miss priss next to me. I was thankful until I looked at dad's face. That's when I realized he was really pissed... more than likely at my absence of half of the class. “Get settled in everyone! As you all may know already, we have a new student.” AND there it was. He was out for blood, and I was the victim. Just please don't address me as your daughter, please don't. “Everyone meet my daughter, Kalisia.” Yep, my life is officially over. He did exactly what I thought he would do. “Kalisia, would you like to come up here and introduce yourself a little?” No, I would not. But, like an obedient child, I walked up to the front of the room next to where he was standing. I looked at all of the students around me. There were many clique groups sitting next to each other. There were three girls to the left back of the room completely oblivious to what was going on in their little cheer uniforms. The jocks sitting to the right of them were only paying attention to the cheerleaders and no one else in the room, laughing and flirting with them. Next to them in the front middle of the classroom were the, I guess you would call them nerds or geeks, they all had their laptops and books out with their faces stuck in them studying, and then there was the girl on the front far right that sat next to me burning a whole right through me. There was one guy in the far back right of the classroom sleeping on his desk and a few around him not looking up from their phones. Good, at least no one will really be paying attention to me at least. I stood there, contemplating a few minutes on what to say, but that just grew a lot of hatred towards my dad. I came to the conclusion that there are probably already so many rumors going around for a teacher here of 10 years to all of a sudden magically have a kid, so why not just drop the truth bomb? “Well, I'm 17. My mom died, and I moved here to live with my dad.” Almost everyone in the entire class gasped and glared right at me out of complete shock. Well, so much for staying under the radar. “Nice to meet you all.” Yep, that was good enough. I wasn't going to say more than that so I just sprinted back to my seat and sat down in pure embarrassment. I threw my face in my hands and refused to even look up. I could tell dad was completely embarrassed as well, because he was choking to come up with words. Good, serves him right. “Okay then. Let's continue off on chapter 6 in your Algebra books. Amber do you mind sharing your notes with Kalisia?” He was referring to the girl next to me. She just glared at me like I was the bane of her existence and snapped “harsh, here.” She threw her notes at me landing loudly on my desk. Really? I'M the harsh one? Who exactly does this chic think she is? “Thanks.” I started skimming and copying over her notes onto the notebook I pulled out of my bag. Ugh, I need this day to end.
