KALISIA
I was tired of talking about my mother as it was really depressing me. “I hear you two are together.” I obviously knew they weren't actually together, but I wanted to know how he felt about her and what was going on there out of curiosity.
I was really liking this guy and enjoying his company. For once, I hadn't even thought about mom since her death.
I needed a distraction, and I desperately wanted to know what it was like having a boy friend or even a guy friend at that.
He seemed almost repulsed by my question. I wasn't expecting that reaction. “ME and ASHLEE oh no, no way. We're just friends. Well, I'm nice to her after what happened with her sister. I feel a little guilty.” Now, I was definitely curious.
“What happened to her sister, if I may ask?”
“She died a couple years back... actually murdered.” Wait, what?!
“What?! That's horrible oh my gosh what happened?” I didn't want to pry, but I was stuck in my curiosity.
“It's a long story; maybe another time. She was her identical twin, and I feel somewhat obligated...” What on Earth was he going on about?
My interest in the subject was only building, but of course he was interrupted by the stalker.
“Oh, there you are! I was looking all over for you!” Yeah, because we both hadn't been sitting here the whole time for the past 20 minutes. ”Could we go talk somewhere about decorations for the school dance Devon?”
“Dance?” I hadn't seen or heard anything about a dance.
“Yes, Kalisia, prom, it's like only the most important dance of the year. Summer is just a little more than a month away. For us seniors, that's kind of a big deal.” It had to be a snarky b***h response, like I'm supposed to know that.
At least Devon was not amused by her attitude and rolled his eyes at her. I'm liking him even more.
“Come on Ashlee, we'll talk in the hall.” She had to find some way to steal him away somehow didn't she?
“Kalisia, could we talk later, maybe after school? Meet me at the front?” I wasn't feeling like it really. I just wanted to rush out and deal with the day, but at this point, I wanted to say yes just to spite Ashlee.
“Yeah, I'll see you there.” Her expression was so worth it. She crossed her arms angrily and gave me a death glare. “If I can get past without my dad seeing me.”
“See you then.” He was so excited, it was hard not to fall for him, but I need to keep my guard up.
“Let's go! ” This girl was impossibly demanding, and I don't know why he succumbed to her demands. It was extremely irritating how obedient he was to her.
I don't think I could get involved with a guy who cant drop a girl who's constantly all over him.
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to see what he has to say when I meet him after school.
* * *
School had ended quite faster than I had expected, and I was lucky to dodge past dad while he was in deep conversation with the principle. It was really strange seeing those two together, I could have even sworn I heard a flirtatious giggle come from her as I slid past them.
Surely I misheard, that lady seemed like the most uptight person I'd ever met in my life. Plus, it's MY dad. He's really let himself go. Can she really have a thing for him?
Wait, I wonder if he has a thing for her! Ew, I threw that thought far from my mind almost immediately.
I didn't bother to look up at any other student before busting out of the front double doors to the school.
Finally, I felt free, like I had escaped somehow. Now, to wait and see if Devon shows up.
I sat there for about 15 minutes watching students pass by. Where was he? Did I seriously get stood up? I started to pace to the left on the sidewalk, then right. I pulled the phone dad had gotten for me out of my back pocket and pretended to be into it so I didn't look like a total loser standing outside alone.
More students passed by, getting in their own cars and driving off, some riding with friends, and others leaving with their parents. There were less than a dozen outside the school now. I wondered where Devon was. I didn't have much time left before my dad would come out to take me home.
The breeze started to set in, and I was freezing. I don't know why I decided on a miniskirt. I felt a big gust of wind go right up between my legs almost blowing my skirt up above my waist. I struggled to push it back down when I heard someone come up behind me.
