KALISIA
The car ride with dad was less awkward this time. I think for the first time in weeks, I actually felt... happy.
“Thanks again dad for letting me go to this dance,” I paused, “AND for the card to buy dresses.”
“I just want you to be happy Kalisia. If you ever need to talk about... about what happened.” He winced. “Let me know.” I could tell that was hard for him to say.
“Okay, thanks.” I replied awkwardly. I was hoping to avoid conversations like this, but I guess I will probably have to talk to him about it eventually, won't I?
We pulled up to the corner he had dropped me off at yesterday. At first, I was happy to jump out and be on my way, but I was feeling appreciative of dad. “No, don't stop here.” I quickly spit out. He looked at me shocked and confused. “Go ahead.”
“You don't want me to drop you off a block away?”
I looked at him and smiled. “No, I'm good.” He looked forward almost pleased with himself, pulled back onto the road, and continued on towards the school parking lot.
As he pulled into his parking spot at the school, I saw Devon standing by the front double doors talking to a very muscular guy wearing a football uniform. He was your typical looking jock with spiked blonde hair, bulging muscles, the arrogant posture where he stands and bobs like he's the coolest dude in the world, and the hand swipe through his hair every 5 minutes as he spoke. He seems like the kind of guy I don't want to be introduced to.
I really wanted to talk to Devon about last night though and thank him for the flower. “Dad, do you care if I go talk to Devon for a bit before going in?”
He rolled his eyes annoyingly.
“I promise I won't be late to class.”
“Yeah, sure. Go ahead sweetie,” he gestured.
“See you in class!” He waved as I hopped out of the car and took off after Devon.
I paused about 20 feet away avoiding eye contact with all of the other students walking past glaring at me. “Um, hey Devon!” I shouted out and waved at him.
He looked back at me and smiled. Ugh, I couldn't handle the way he smiled at me. It made me weak in the knees and churned my stomach into knots.
“Hey Kalisia! One sec!” He yelled back.
“Yeah, yeah. I'll see you later man.” He was talking with the other guy as I walked slowly a little closer towards them.
“See ya; good luck with that one,” the guy responded as he nudged Devon in the back with his elbow, winked at me, then took off inside the school.
What did he mean by that?
“Hello beautiful.” Devon said flirtingly. “Want me to walk you in?”
“Actually, I was going to text you. Then I realized I don't have your phone number.”
“Silly me. I didn't give it to you did I?” I shook my head no as I hugged my books to my chest. I held them so tightly, I felt if I dropped them, I would fall with them. I couldn't breathe when I was around Devon Lochlan.
“Here, give me your phone, and I'll fix that.” I let out the breath I was holding in, reached into my front pocket, and pulled out my phone. He looked down at it, then to me, let out a little laugh, then grabbed it. I'm not sure why he laughed. Maybe it was a cheap phone or the style or the... I'm over-analyzing everything again. I watched intently as he punched his number into my phone.
“..and there you go!” He handed the phone back to me.
“Thanks.” I was so nervous I almost dropped it, but I grabbed it before it could slip to the ground. I placed it back into my pocket. I've already slept with the guy, technically, but standing right here in front of him, in front of everyone apparently, I looked around noticing at least 20 kids staring at us; I was having a panic attack and couldn't even act normal.
“Since I have you here, I have a question for you.” Devon stated. I took a deep breath and tried to erase everyone around us and focus on just Devon and I.
“Oh yeah?” I flirted back.
“Since, you know it's Friday and all. I was wondering... if you would be interested in trying out this new pizza place that just opened up?”
Like a date?!
“I'd love to. I'll ask my dad, but I'm sure he won't mind.”
“Awesome, can't wait. I'd walk you in... But I just remembered I have some banners for the dance I have to go pick up.” He said annoyingly.
He started walking towards the school's athletic building where the gym was. It was around 100 feet to the left of the school's main building. I was really hoping he'd walk me to class, but I'll take a date.
“Can't wait! Text me when you find out something and let me know where and what time to meet.” He yelled as he jogged away.
“I will. See ya!” I hollered back.
