16 Knox picked me up at six with a kiss that left me breathless and a bouquet that made my eyes tear up. “More flowers?” I asked. He shrugged. “I figured the ones I got you a few weeks ago were gone, and you needed some new ones.” I took the bouquet and brought them to my nose. I turned to retrieve the pitcher I’d used last time, Knox behind me, when he cleared his throat. “I, um, also got this.” I stopped and spun to face him, gasping when he held up a simple vase. It was tall enough for the flowers he brought, but not so tall it wouldn’t fit shorter blooms.
