Chapter VIII: Admirer

1553 Words
Cal’s First Person POV I closed my eyes, letting the memories wash over me. Memories of that fateful day, the day that changed everything. It was a crisp autumn morning, the sun shining brightly overhead. I had been out for a run, enjoying the peacefulness of the forest, when I heard the sound of screeching tires. That's when I saw him. The prince. Unconscious, bleeding, and trapped in the royal carriage. Without hesitation, I sprang into action. I carefully pried open the door, wincing as I saw the extent of the prince's injuries. His face was battered and bruised, his clothes torn and bloody. I gently pulled him from the wreckage, cradling his head in my lap as I assessed his injuries. He was breathing shallowly, his pulse weak. I knew I had to act fast. I quickly ripped off my clothes and used it to apply pressure to his wounds, trying to stem the bleeding. As I held him, I felt a strange sense of calm wash over me. It was as if I had been meant to be there, to save him. The prince's eyes flickered open, and he looked up at me with a confused expression. "Who...who are you?" he whispered. I smiled, trying to reassure him. "I'm just a passerby," I said. "You're safe now." The prince's eyes locked onto mine, and I felt a jolt of electricity run through my body. It was as if time had stopped, and all that existed was the two of us. And in that moment, I knew. I knew that I had fallen deeply in love with the prince. But I also knew that it was impossible. I was just a commoner, and he was royalty. Our love was forbidden. So I pushed the feelings aside, focusing on getting the prince the help he needed and soon the forest was filled with the sound of sirens. As the paramedics took the prince away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of loss. I had saved his life, but I knew that I would never see him again. Or so I thought. Little did I know, our story was only just beginning. As I stood guard over the prince, I couldn't help but think back to the day we first met. The day I saved his life. But it wasn't the only time I had saved him. There was another incident, one that still made my blood boil to this day. It happened at a royal gathering, where the prince was surrounded by nobles and dignitaries. I was standing off to the side, keeping a watchful eye on him, when I noticed a suspicious character lurking around the edges of the crowd. He was a young man, dressed in fancy clothes, but with a sleazy look in his eye. He was staring at the prince with an intensity that made my skin crawl. As I scanned the crowd, my eyes landed on the prince, sitting alone and looking vulnerable. I instinctively moved closer, my protective instincts on high alert. Just as I reached his side, the man approached him. "Hey, beautiful prince, you're looking fierce today. Can we get to know each other?" he asked, his voice dripping with confidence. The prince looked taken aback, his face burning with embarrassment. I stepped forward, my eyes flashing with warning. "You can't just talk to the prince unexpectedly, especially if they don't know you," I said, my voice firm but polite. The young man's face darkened, and he retorted, "I'm interested in him, so get out of it." I stood my ground, my eyes locked on the young man. "I'm afraid that's not possible," I said. Just then, the prince's brother Arthur arrived, his presence commanding respect. "If he doesn't say anything, then he's not interested in dating you," he said, his voice firm but gentle. With that, I turned and walked away, leaving the prince and his brother to deal with the awkward situation. As I walked away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. I had protected the prince from a potentially uncomfortable situation, and I had done it with ease. But as I disappeared into the crowd, I couldn't shake the feeling that the prince's eyes were on me. I glanced back, and our eyes met for a brief moment. I felt a flutter in my chest, and I quickly looked away. I couldn't let myself get distracted by the prince's charms. I had a job to do, and I needed to stay focused. I made my way back to my post, scanning the crowd for any potential threats. But my mind kept wandering back to the prince, and the way he had looked at me. I pushed the thoughts aside, trying to concentrate on my work. But I couldn't shake the feeling that something was changing between us. Something that could potentially put us both in danger. Fast forward: King Victor announced who wanted to be Prince George’s bodyguard to the village I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the tie on my uniform. I had to admit, I made a pretty convincing man. I had been wanting to protect the prince for a while now, but I knew it wouldn't be easy. As a woman, I wouldn't be taken seriously as a bodyguard. So I had come up with a plan. I would disguise myself as a man and apply for the position of the prince's bodyguard also to escape in the orphanage. I began to cut my long hair short. I took a deep breath, practicing my masculine stride in front of the mirror. I had to be convincing if I was going to pull this off. I grabbed my bag and headed out the door, making my way to the palace. I was nervous but determined. As I arrived at the palace, I was greeted by a stern-looking butler. "Can I help you?" he asked. "I'm here to apply for the position of the prince's bodyguard," I said, trying to sound as masculine as possible. The butler raised an eyebrow. "You're a bit... unexpected," he said. I smiled, trying to appear confident. "I assure you, I'm more than qualified for the job," I said. The butler nodded, stepping aside. "Very well. Follow me.” I followed the butler through the winding corridors of the palace, trying to take in every detail. We finally arrived at a large wooden door, adorned with the royal crest. The butler knocked twice, and a voice from inside bade us enter. I took a deep breath, pushing open the door and stepping inside. The room was filled with several men, all of whom looked like they had been plucked straight from the military. They eyed me up and down, their expressions skeptical. At the front of the room, a large desk sat, behind which Prince George himself sat, looking every inch the royal. He eyed me with interest, a small smile playing on his lips. Third person POV : Cal stood tall, trying to exude confidence as he faced the prince and his panel of interviewers. Despite the butterflies in his stomach, he launched into a detailed explanation of his qualifications and experience. The prince listened intently, his eyes narrowing as he considered Cal's words. The other men in the room seemed less impressed, their expressions ranging from skeptical to outright hostile. But Cal refused to back down. He spoke with conviction, his voice steady and strong. And as he spoke, something about him seemed to resonate with the prince. When Cal finished, the room fell silent. The prince leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together as he considered Cal's application. Finally, he spoke. "Thank you, Mr. Cal," he said. "You have certainly given us something to think about. We will be in touch soon to let you know our decision." Cal nodded, trying to hide his disappointment. He had been hoping for a more definitive answer, but it seemed he would have to wait. He turned to leave, but as he reached the door, the prince spoke again. "Mr. Cal?" Cal turned back, his heart racing with anticipation. "Yes, Your Highness?" The prince smiled, a mischievous glint in his eye. "I think you'll find that our decision will be sooner rather than later." Cal's heart skipped a beat as he met the prince's gaze. He felt a spark of electricity run through his body, and suddenly, he knew that his life was about to change in ways he couldn't even imagine. Cal’s First Person POV As I walked out of the palace, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. I had taken a risk by applying for the prince's bodyguard position, knowing that most people would rather aim for the more prestigious role of King's bodyguard or Kingdom Protector. But I had my reasons for wanting to protect the prince. From the moment I saw him, I knew there was something special about him. His kind heart, his charming smile... I couldn't help but feel drawn to him. And now, as I waited to hear back about my application, I couldn't help but feel a sense of hope. Maybe, just maybe, I would get the chance to protect the prince and get to know him better.
