Mary and Dacque arrived at the Cantland home around two o’clock on Saturday afternoon. Mary seemed quite happy to join Dacque each week on his visits and he was delighted to have the opportunity to spend much of their Saturdays in the company of his former apartment guest. Dacque contemplated the notion that it would be nice if Mary handed Cammi her storybook gift on this occasion, but in the final analysis he was concerned that if Cammi got used to receiving books from Mary then she might also expect Mary to come baring gifts on the days when she was employed as their babysitter, so he scrapped the whole idea. Mary rang the doorbell.
