I’ve scoured the entire library from top to bottom, disturbing every single dust bunny, and I’ve found nothing.
Typically, our library has one of the biggest collections there is. There was even one collection that detailed everything about dragon shifters from Switzerland. Now that was an interesting new find. Apparently they’re very rare and very secretive. Which means in today’s time, their either extinct or very well hidden. Either possibility sounds cool enough for me to browse through an entire book.
After wasting my time with that, I kept looking to find nothing more than the generic investigations on rogues.
They are lone wolves, rarely traveling with another. They don’t have allegiance to any pack, and therefore have no connection to a stronghold that comes with belonging to family. They’re also very meek creatures, docile and tend to run when confronted. But that doesn’t mean there were never any instances where they were aggressive. Just a few months ago, there was another rogue that had attacked a camping trip of humans. It was a wrong place at the wrong time I guess, because none of those humans survived.
After a quick search of the newsletters, the ones that are specifically made for the wolves around the world, I found out that that same rogue had been eliminated by a hunter. Stabbed with a special blade that left it dust in the wind.
Now that was awesome.
The badass hunter thing. Not the fact that humans were killed, of course.
Hunters were never a problem for packs like ours – peaceful, people oriented, trying to live normally. I’ve never met one. I don’t think one has even set foot on our territory for decades. But for some reason, I’d like to meet one. On good terms, of course.
After giving up on the research, I walk out of the library feeling defeated and hungry. I hadn’t eaten anything after this morning when Jax returned from finding out that the rogue was gone. He made me some toast and eggs, and basically forced it down my throat.
I make a quick stop at the kitchen, grabbing a plate of pasta and scarfing it down in under ten minutes. Then I retreat up the stairs to my room.
Imagine the enraged shock on my face when I open my bedroom door to a completely empty bedroom.
Damn it.
I knew Victoria said that she’d be moving me into a wing of my own, one I would apparently share with my mates, but having the housekeepers move them during the day was low. I didn’t think I could actually talk Victoria out of the decision, that woman does have a way with things, but I at least thought I’d have a couple of days to prepare for it.
I storm through the hallways, towards the third floor east wing, the only wing on the top floor aside from theirs. My feet were pounding on the ground with determination and anger.
I arrive at the floor and open the first door on the left – the master of the wing. My irritation reared further when I find that everything has been placed as if I’d been living here. The desk in the far corner had my open laptop, and my favourite mug that I use to bring tea to my room. The closet was arranged meticulously just like I had it in my old room, even with the special folded training shirts in the corner – I liked to keep them at the ready. My skin care and vitamins were arranged the same way in the bathroom that now had its own claw foot tub. Aside from the bigger room, the higher ceiling, and the gorgeous view of the lake from afar, it looked exactly my old room.
This was ridiculous.
I rush out of the room, already thinking about what to say to Victoria just for the spite of it, but then I notice the three other doors in the hallway. One right beside mine and two across.
My mate’s rooms.
Don’t get me wrong, I knew these rooms would be theirs. But seeing how close they are is suddenly makes me very aware of our proximity. Until I choose.
I internally groan at the reminder. I don’t even know how to begin with that.
Should I even tell them about Dad and Victoria’s ultimatum? I probably shouldn’t. I mean, I love their attention if my previous reactions to them are any evidence to that, but the last thing I want to do is start a werewolf’s version of the bachelorette.
Yeah, so, no telling them. I’ll have to do this ala survivor. Secretive and strategic.
I walk cautiously towards the door beside mine, turning the knob and taking a peak inside. Boxes were piled inside, some were open while some still closed. There were stuff already laid out like the dresser with open drawers, clothes halfway filling them. Running shoes in the corner and a waste basket with already two shirts in it. I open the door further and know for sure this is where Jax has been moving into for the entire afternoon. It’s late in the afternoon now, so if I’m not wrong, he’s already on patrol until tonight.
Walking over to the door across his, I nudge it open and see one sensible suitcase inside. The room was as bare as any of our other guest rooms, nothing much inside. Which means that suitcase inside must be Archer’s.
I haven’t seen him since he left this morning to send off his officers. I still can’t believe he’s agreed to stay here for a while, at least. Because I honestly still don’t know what his plans are. Which means once again in two days, I need to pull up my big girl panties and actually talk to him. Boy, I don’t know how the hell that conversation is going to play out.
Closing his door with a little more force than I planned to – the aggressiveness showing a little there – I proceed to the last door, the one directly across from mine. Chase’s.
I open the door to see it’s almost the same state as Jax’s, and I can’t help but actually step inside. My gaze sweeps over the bare walls as my lungs fill up on that earthy scent that’s entirely Chase. My hand traces over an open box on top of the desk and I take a peek inside. My face heats when I see clothes. Underwear to be specific. Those tight boxer ones with thick hems and designer names. The heat spreads to the back of my neck when an image of Chase in these pops into my head.
Oh, that would be a sight.
I shake myself and step away before I start acting like a perv.
That’s when I notice the bookshelves on the other side of the room, right next to the door towards the en suite bathroom and closet. My feet takes me over as my eye traces one particular framed photo. It was a picture of Chase, Cora and me when we were about five years old.
We were the only children of high ranking officers that were close in age, so we spent a lot of time together. I don’t remember when this picture was taken though. Cora was smiling as she points a flower towards the camera. I, on the other hand, had the giddiest and largest f*****g smile on my face as I hugged young Chase’s arm tightly. A small laugh bursts out of me when I notice his face, all irritated with the fakest forced smile on his face. He looks like our parents held him at gun point until he agreed to take the photo.
Grumpy then, grumpy now.
But then the humour leaves my body when I notice all of the other trinkets. They were gifts. My gifts to him for his birthdays throughout the years, to be particular. The first one was when I was fourteen. Cora and I were having fun in town when we came across a display of keychains. Then I found one of the grumpy emoji and I thought it would be perfect for Chase. It was a joke at first, but then the following year I got him a mug with Grumpy from Snow White on it. It became a tradition. A framed photo of a grumpy cat. A night light with the word ‘NO’ bold and in caps lock. A bubble head of a grumpy monkey. Every single one was lined up on the shelves.
“Why am I not surprised I’d find you snooping around in my room?” Chase voice from the door makes me jump. Turning around, I find him leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest.
“You scared the s**t out of me!” I said, my hand flying to my chest while he just smirks. “Don’t smirk at me. I still need to talk to you about agreeing to move here.”
He just shrugs as he pushes off the wall. “I already live in the pack house. It’s not much moving to a different wing. Besides, why would I say no to having my mate in the same wing too. Actually, if it were up to me, we’d be sharing the same room. But I’d settle for sharing the same wall.”
My brows scrunched. “Uh, Jax is the one sharing a wall with me. We’re across the hall.”
He rolls his eyes as he approaches me. “Lover boy beat me to it.”
I huff out a laugh. There’s no way Jax is okay with that new nickname from Chase. “Are you just coming back from training?”
“Yeah.” He says, finally reaching me and pulling me by the waist for a hug. I instantly melt. “I forgot how much I hated training fifteen year olds. At least Cora was there to help me with the drills.”
I groan as I bury my face in his chest. I haven’t even gotten the chance to have a chat with Cora since last night. She’s bombarded my phone with texts since this morning and I guess I’ve purposefully avoided them. I wanted to talk to her in person but then the whole rogue thing happened. “Cora’s going to kill me.”
Chase laughs, the sound sending vibrations all throughout my body. “She’s actually pretty excited for you. She did mention something about killing you first for not telling her, but then she’d get excited again.”
“Really?” I ask, looking up and instantly being captivated by those bright hazel eyes. “She doesn’t find it weird at all? You’re her brother and Jax is our best friend.”
Chase pauses as he thinks about it. “She kinda said something along the lines of ‘You go girl.’ Or something.”
I laugh. Loudly. And his arms just tighten around me.
He looks at me for a few more minutes before changing the topic. “Are you okay, baby?”
My brows scrunch again as I wonder what he was asking about. The whole harem situation? The rogue attack? The fact that I need to choose? But of course he doesn’t know about that last one.
“Yeah, I’m good.” I answer, flashing him a smile that doesn’t quite reach my eyes. He just hums as if he just knows that I’m lying. After a few more moments, he speaks again. Changing the topic once again.
“Since you’re good, then let’s go have dinner.”
I wince. “I just ate.”
“Then you’ll eat more.” The annoyed look comes back into his face and I can’t help but get excited by it. I’m really learning to love that look. “Don’t make me ask again, baby.”
I tried pushing against him, but the guy barely even budged. “What if I say no?” I ask, wanting to tease him once again. But apparently it backfires because Chase just growls before crashing his lips against mine.
The kiss wasn’t slow. It wasn’t a build-up or a slow climb. It was cannonball into a twenty feet deep pool with an anchor tied to my leg.
That’s what I felt like trying to keep up with Chase completely devouring me.
His hand crept up to my hair, gripping me tightly and tilting my head to give him better access. He bites my lip, making me gasp and opening my lips wider so his tongue could explore even deeper. A moan escapes me as my arms wrap around his neck, pulling him closer closer closer. Chase growls again, his hands now erratic as they explore from my ass, to my waist, to teasing the underside of my breasts.
I was breathless when we broke apart for air. Chase’s eyes were dilated as he stares at my mouth. And I was in such a mate fog, nothing else made sense but to pull him again into me.
This time we literally fall even deeper.
Both of our hands raced towards each other’s clothes. A curse spills from his mouth when we pull away to take off each other’s shirts. And then I only had a split second to ogle his body before he’s grabbing my face and kissing me again.
Chase walks back, pulling me with him as we both refuse to break the kiss another time. He back down on the bed when it bumps against his legs and I instinctively straddle him, a shaky breath leaving my lips when I settle my weight down and feel his hardness settling against my core. Layers of clothing separating us, but the heat radiating from us was setting me on fire.
“f**k!” Chase curses when I grind down on him. Stars were exploding behind my eyes as Chase grabs my hips, roughly grinding me against him.
I grab a fist full of the hair on the back of his head as I continue, the pleasure too much to bear as it rushes to my head. To every nerve ending in my body.
The kiss was long forgotten as Chase’s hands find the clasp of my bra, setting my breasts free from their confinement with a growl. They were feeling heavy, my n*****s hardened to sharp points. He massages them roughly as I continue to grind against him, my head tilting back towards the ceiling and my eyes closing.
“Oh my God.” I breath when I feel Chase’s fingers rolling my n*****s between his fingers. Then a strangled moan comes out of me when I feel his breath, then his tongue, then his lips wrap around them.
Pressure was starting to build up low in my tummy. Moisture building up in my core that I wouldn’t be surprised if it was soaking my leggings at this point.
“Chase…” I breathe.
Chase releases my n****e with a pop, pulling me down so I was facing him again. I open my eyes only to be completely enraptured by his, sheer unbridled heat pooling and boiling over between us. My forehead pressed against his, lips breathing the same air.
“f**k, that’s right baby.” Chase curses, his voice grovely and sending bolts of lightning directly to my centre. He holds my gaze so harshly, I couldn’t look away if I wanted to. “Ride that d**k. Use me, baby.”
And with those words, I’m catapulted into the air. Falling through clouds. Lights zigzagging in my eyes that I couldn’t keep open. Limbs shaking. Breathing halted. Euphoria crashes through me like a tidal wave so unexpected I couldn’t help but drown.
A guttural groan comes out of Chase, his grip so tight on my hips that I wouldn’t be surprised if it left bruises.
It takes minutes of heavy breathing from both of us before the tremors completely leave our bodies and our feet are planted back on solid ground. Realization hits me all at once and I can’t believe I just dry humped Chase. The egotistical annoying trainer turned mate. And yet there was no ounce of guilt or terror or regret in me.
“So…” I start, breathing heavily as I rest my head against his shoulder. “Still want to go to dinner?”
His heavy inhale was halted by his raucous laughter.
