Keep Teasing

Freya For the entire morning, I sit in the conference room with Dad, his officers and Jax. I wouldn’t say it was an entirely productive morning, given that majority of the time they were rambling on and on about how werewolves aren’t usually aggressive. Of course they’d rather argue that it was none of their faults this happened. Jax sat in a separate swivelling chair beside me, constantly bumping his leg against mine like a physical reassurance of comfort as they ask us the exact details of what happened for the second time today. Eventually, they proceeded to plot a new rotation schedules and decided to double the number of guards on patrol at all times. At least until this specific rogue had been captured. I don’t even think about bringing up the suspicious feeling I had of the rogue earlier – about his completely black eyes and how it was particularly keen on me. And so far, I think Jax doesn’t think much of it or he didn’t notice it at all. About an hour before noon, a livid Chase storms into the conference room – his eyes instantly seeking me out. “What the f**k happened?” Chase says as he approached me. He pulled me out of my chair, his hands roaming all over my arms, my neck and my hair, as if to assure himself that nothing happened to me. “Language, son.” Beta Henry sighed as he leaned back in his chair. Chase rolled his eyes as he pulled me into an embrace. “I just found out my mate was involved in a rogue attack. I don’t particularly care about language right now.” He kisses me on the top of my head as he breathes me in. I was melting into him, but of course I was acutely aware that every pair of eyes were on me right now. Come to think of it, they’ve been sending looks mine and Jax’s way too all morning. I guess the cat’s out of the bag. Well, to be technical, it was out of the bag last night when these idiots announced it at the party. I wanted to care about what they were thinking, how it looked from their eyes – how strange it is and everything – but frankly, I’m too busy revelling in how right it feels to be in Chase’s arms to care. A calming breath enters my lungs as Jax interjects to tell him what had happened this morning. He proceeds to tell him that the entire thing was already handled. “That rogue could be anywhere! How is that handled?” Chase says, taking a step back and letting me go to face his Dad and mine. The warmth I had felt was instantly pulled back like a wave rushing back to the ocean. I hated it. Thank the Goddess that Jax sensed it and held my hand, making me turn to smile at him. “It’s the best we could do right now.” Henry says, his hand rising to rub at his temple as if to ward away a migraine. “Tighter patrol. It’s safe and we can look for it at the same time.” “They’re right.” Jax says, standing up as well. He grabs me by the waist, kissing me on the temple – once again earning raised brows from Dad’s officers – before facing the entire room with a smile. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a few things to attend to. I volunteered for a shift tonight so I’ll have to unbox my stuff the entire afternoon – I did just move and all. My eyes narrowed as looked at him, sending sharp scathing knives his way and remembering how that conversation was cut off by my sudden mate fog. Can’t say I regret it really. “I’ll see you later, Frey.” He says, leaning down to give me one last peck on the cheek before darting out the door. He couldn’t be out of here fast enough. I could take a page from his book. “I actually need to get back to those papers you needed me to sort, Dad.” I smile. My Dad who actually works like town mayor had a lot of paperwork in handling both the town and the pack. And since I am the next Alpha, I’m acting like an elect right now. To put in more simple terms, I’m an office lackey. “Thank you for involving me in your discussion this morning. I’ll see you all later.” I say with firmness in my voice, meeting every single pair of eyes in the room with respect. Then I ducked out as fast as I could. “Baby.” Chase follows after me as walk through the hallways, as if heading towards Dad’s office. “What’s up?” I say, nonchalant and sweet. “Baby.” He laughs, grabbing me by arm and turning me towards him. He looks like a high school boy right now, tight white shirt that stretched over his delicious muscles and those sexy black training joggers. And aside from that annoyed look of his, he actually looks a little nervous as he tucks his hands in his pockets. “Have dinner with me tonight.” My brows rise. Did I just hear him right? “Stop looking so surprised.” He smiles, flicking the scrunched part between my brows. “I figured you’d want to spend time with your mate.” “One of my mates.” I clarify, and for the first time it actually felt great. Like the panic has ebbed away and I starting to enjoy the power that comes with it. Chase rolls his eyes with a sigh. “Fine. I figured you’d want to spend time with your favourite mate.” An unexpected laugh bursts from me. And when I stop, I find Chase looking at me with wistful eyes and a soft smile of his own. My heart quite literally skips a beat. “You’re serious.” I state. Not a question, no hint of surprise. In fact, I think having dinner with my mates sounds like a wonderful idea – of course that’s the mate fog invading my head and painting naughty things. So instead of answering, I smile back at him as I pull him by his shirt and smashing his lips against mine. It doesn’t even take a second for Chase to react, taking control over the kiss in a moment as he grabs my neck and turns my head to invade my mouth, and my soul, even deeper. I almost didn’t want it to end, but the pride in me wanted to keep the upper hand. So I lightly pushed him back, biting his lower lip soothing it with my tongue. His eyes are hazy as he looks down at me, and I smirk. “I’ll check my calendar.” I answer with a wink. “Guess I’ll have to put in a rotation with all my mates, huh?” I laugh as step back, amused with the sudden annoyed look in his eyes. Now that’s the Chase I know. “Careful.” He calls after me, his tongue pushing into his cheek as his eyes scour over me. “Keep teasing me and see what happens, baby.” I just laugh as my feet move faster, putting more and more distance between me and him until I eventually turn down another hallway. I don’t actually turn towards Dad’s office – I finished with those papers yesterday. I’m actually a damn good office lackey. So no, I don’t head to the office. Instead I head to the next door over. I’m sure there’s something in our library about rogues. Especially aggressive ones with blacked out eyes.
